NASA\u2019s Boeing Crew Flight Test astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams in June 2024. The duo took their first spacewalk together on January 30, 2025. NASA\u2019s two Starliner astronauts\u2014Sunita \u201cSuni\u201d Williams<\/a> and Barry \u201cButch\u201d Wilmore<\/a>, who have spent an unexpected eight months on the International Space Station (ISS)\u2014took their first spacewalk together on Thursday.<\/p>\n \u201cHere we go,\u201d said Wilmore as he emerged into space, reports Marcia Dunn for the Associated Press<\/a>. The two astronauts performed maintenance work on degraded radio hardware and collected samples from the station\u2019s exterior to test for microbes. The entirety of the spacewalk lasted five hours and 26 minutes, and it was live streamed<\/a> in an official broadcast from NASA.<\/p>\n The feat was Wilmore\u2019s first spacewalk since the start of the trip. Williams stepped out<\/a>\u00a0two weeks ago with another NASA astronaut, Nick Hague<\/a>. But with their previous experience on spacewalks during other missions, this one was Wilmore\u2019s fifth\u2014and it was the ninth for Williams, who also set a new record with this outing.<\/p>\n Now, Williams is the woman with the most time spent spacewalking in history, with a career\u00a0total<\/a> of 62 hours and six minutes. Former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson<\/a> set the previous record in 2017, with\u00a060 hours and 21 minutes.
