She is stepping down as marketing director and I am stepping down as CEO, although I will be staying on as a consultant for the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8627\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8627\" class=\" wp-image-8627\" src=\"https:\/\/brewmistress.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Meg-Ross-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"493\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-8627\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meghan and Ross McCulloch (Image supplied)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The McCullochs announced the news to the Jack Black team this afternoon and quietly made the move public via <a href=\"https:\/\/jackblackbeer.com\/blogs\/journal\/jack-black-s-next-chapter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a personal statement from Ross on the brewery\u2019s blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll staff will be retained \u2013 there\u2019s no change there at this point, and no retrenchments,\u201d Ross told me. Likewise, the beers and the taproom will remain the same, with no plans to discontinue any beers or stray from the current model. \u201cHeineken is a great partner,\u201d said Ross. \u201cWhile they do look at costs of course, they also look at other efficiencies and don\u2019t touch the recipes or opt for cost saving when it comes to ingredients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Ross remains in a consulting role, Wulrich van Wyk, head of sales excellence at Heineken, will take over leadership at the <a href=\"https:\/\/brewmistress.co.za\/friday-beers-jack-black-brewing-co-in-cape-town\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diep River based brewery<\/a>. Meghan will be stepping away, having prepped her marketing team to take over. \u201cShe\u2019ll soon be taking on the next project,\u201d said Ross. He wouldn\u2019t elaborate on what that project might be, other than that it would be in South Africa and likely not within the alcohol industry.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Black was founded in 2007 as a contract brand, brewing at Birkenhead Brewery, Boston Breweries and Cape Brewing Company before <a href=\"https:\/\/brewmistress.co.za\/jack-black-brewery-opens-in-cape-town\/\">launching their own physical brewery in 2016<\/a>. \u201cThe original plan was to have a brewpub,\u201d said Ross. \u201cWe wanted to make good beer and a little bit of money \u2013 have a lifestyle business. There was no master plan. It was never in our minds to sell and exit the industry but as the industry has changed over the years, it feels like a natural progression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ross added that the buyout was mutual. \u201cThere was no forced takeover or anything like that,\u201d he said. \u201cWe knew it was coming for quite a while and have been prepping to make for a seamless changeover. I\u2019m very excited for the brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From my side, I\u2019d like to wish Ross and Meghan all the best, and to send big thanks for everything they\u2019ve done for the industry. They paved the way for many brands that came after them, they convinced the Mother City that draught beer was best and they introduced craft beer to a whole new audience.
