{"id":60235,"date":"2025-01-31T15:38:28","date_gmt":"2025-01-31T15:38:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/alabama\/national-democrats-are-silent-on-trump-still-in-mourning\/"},"modified":"2025-01-31T15:38:28","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T15:38:28","slug":"national-democrats-are-silent-on-trump-still-in-mourning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=60235","title":{"rendered":"National Democrats are silent on Trump, still in mourning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Democratic Party, at both the national and local levels, is suffering from a lack of leadership after the re-election of Donald Trump left the party in a state of \u201cmourning,\u201d Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a lengthy, wide ranging interview on the <a href=\"https:\/\/creators.spotify.com\/pod\/show\/alabamapoliticsthisweek\">Alabama Politics This Week podcast<\/a>, Daniels was critical of the lack of planning, poor messaging and failures to unite Democrats under a meaningful platform that drew in a broad coalition of voters. And in the wake of those failures, he said, the party has been embarrassingly absent when it comes to organized messaging about Trump\u2019s recent actions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Agitator (w\/ House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels)\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TtB7Dcj2PAw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think for me as a political leader, I was just really concerned that we\u2019ve not heard any type of strategy or any pushback at the national level at all,\u201d Daniels said of the surprising lack of response to Trump\u2019s executive orders. \u201cThere\u2019s no plan to be able to say, \u2018hey, here\u2019s what you guys should be doing at the local level. Here\u2019s what you should be doing at the state level. Here\u2019s what you should be doing at the county level.\u2019 There\u2019s no conversation about that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone right now is just trying to figure out what to do. There is no leader at the national level to help us understand the strategy on how to get out. That\u2019s why think tanks are important. The other side \u2026 they\u2019ve mastered having think tanks and policy groups and disruptors within their own ranks. But right now there\u2019s no leader.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, Daniels said he believes the party has slipped badly when it comes to creating and disseminating messages about Democratic priorities that really cut across demographics and reel in massive numbers of voters. Instead of focusing on so-called \u201ckitchen table issues,\u201d the party has allowed itself to be dragged into culture war fights and into the weeds on issues that American voters really don\u2019t care much about.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, popular Democratic Party ideas, such Daniels\u2019 overtime tax cut and protecting public education, get little push.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much of that, he said, is due to the party being responsive to \u201cmega donors\u201d instead of voters and being led by single-issue groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve allowed mega donors to dictate policy instead of voters,\u201d Daniels said. \u201cWe\u2019ve led with our policy positions being more about what the donors want versus what people need or want.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have groups within our own ranks that only give to the candidates that focus on the single issue, but expect the other people (in the party) that they didn\u2019t help and support to fight and defend their issues.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Daniels said he knew some of his comments would be controversial, but he thinks it\u2019s time for a change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m just tired, man \u2013 sick and tired of this,\u201d he said. \u201cSomething has to change.
