I like to begin with my outer corners. The top left and right side corners, and the bottom left and right side corners. I use my tallest or larger items in those spaces. These typically consist of batter bowls, mixing bowls, or smaller white pitchers. For fall, I like to incorporate pieces that particularly remind me of Thanksgiving.
