Photo by Tony Vargas<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Forget about being an avid wrasse fan, Jim is a hardcore wrasse fanatic and is extremely proud of his collection.\u00a0 This spectacular collection of wrasses are kept in a very specious 240-gallon reef aquarium, well covered to prevent carpet surfing.\u00a0 While many wrasse aficionados would have spend most of their time marveling over Mr. Earlei, I did not.\u00a0 I spent most of my time admiring Jim\u2019s <em>Cirrhilabrus johnsoni<\/em>. I would have to say by far the nicest Johnsoni I have ever seen\u2014its colors were truly breathtaking.\u00a0 When this small Johnsoni started to flash\u2014Look Out\u2014you would think it was altogether a different fish.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wrasse\u2019s in his collection:<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Trio of Hawaiian Flame Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus jordani<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pair of Earl\u2019s Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus earlei<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pair of Girdled Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus <em>balteatus<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pair of Johnsoni Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus <em>johnsoni<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pair of Lunatus Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus <em>lineatus<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pair of Pennant Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus joanallenae<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pair of Rhomboid Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Debelius\u2019 Fairy Wrasse, <em><em>Cirrhilabrus adornatus<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Japanese Pintail Fairy Wrasse Hybrid, <em>Cirrhilabrus cf. lanceolatus<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Naokae\u2019s Fairy Wrasse, <em>Cirrhilabrus <\/em><em>naokoae<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Maritus Flasher Wrasse, <em>Paracheilinus piscilineatus<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tanaka Pygmy Wrasse, <em>Wetmorella tanakai<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jim\u2019s 240-gallon reef display located in his living room is connected to a 720-gallon reef display and a 110-gallon sump in the basement.\u00a0 Everything about this system is custom.\u00a0 The tanks were built by Midwest Acrylics and the cabinet work was done to match the kitchen by a local carpenter.\u00a0 A Reeflo Hammerhead pump provides circulation to both tanks efficiently and a <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aquariumspecialty.com\/idevaffiliate\/idevaffiliate.php?id=101&amp;url=225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"tunze\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"158\">tunze<\/a> 6105 with a controller supplies additional flow to the 240.\u00a0 Water conditions are kept immaculate with the aid of a Reef Octopus XP8000 internal protein skimmer.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting for that magical shot!\u00a0 Minutes before the 240\u2019s photoperiod would come to an end I finally got the picture I was trying so desperately to get, a flashing Mr. Earlei.<\/p>\n<p>What an incredible collection of wrasses, all very colorful and healthy.\u00a0 Mr. Earlei is by far the largest <em>Cirrhilabrus earlei<\/em> I\u2019ve ever seen, definitely a colorful Alfa male especially when he starts flashing for the ladies.\u00a0 Mr. Earlei has a dark black patch to the back of the head that runs along the bottom of his dorsal fin.\u00a0 When he starts to flash his face develops a dark blue line and connects to that black patch, which becomes an intense white color.<\/p>\n<p>Jim, I would like to thank you for sharing this amazing collection of wrasses with the world, nice job!<\/p>\n<p><em>Originally published on June 27, 2011<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jim Gryczanowski 240-Gallon Reef \u00a0 Who would have thought that in my travels I would see two of the elusive Cirrhilabrus earli in two different parts of the country?\u00a0 Let alone five days apart!\u00a0 By now, everyone is aware that I traveled to Salt Lake City in Utah to see Syphus Wrasse Heaven up-close and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":51924,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12040],"tags":[14428,6335,30483,6333,30484],"dealstore":[],"offerexpiration":[],"class_list":["post-51923","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-aquarium","tag-archives","tag-heaven","tag-jims","tag-monday","tag-wrasse"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.4 -
