The 2020 version of Kujo is a porter. I\u2019m not entirely sure when that occurred, but there you go.<\/p>\n<p>This revised version of the beer weighs in at 6% ABV (15 IBU) and utilizes cold-brewed coffee from Vigilante Coffee, another Maryland-based company. The partnership sees the two entities coming together to make themselves a damn good porter.<\/p>\n<p>This full-bodied brew is packed with dark coffee flavor without the associated bitterness. The profile is robust and smooth though not rich like the stout version of this beer. It\u2019s almost rustic in a way with a good bit of char, earthiness and latent roughness at the edges. A hint of chocolate lingers after each swallow.<\/p>\n<p>While I thoroughly enjoyed the previous incarnation of Flying Dog\u2019s Kujo, I think I prefer this porter better. It\u2019s not as rich, but I do like the robust and earthy nature that it presents. Its bite isn\u2019t too ferocious, but ain\u2019t no toy poodle either.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a review of a promotional sample received from the brewery.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"\">&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Appearance<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Pours jet black with a small, dense head of light brown foam. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Aroma<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Loads of coffee, light campfire char, earthy. Mostly dark roast coffee. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Taste<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Smooth yet still robust. Solid dark coffee flavor without bitter astringency. Earthy, almost rustic in a way. Not rich.
