The report, recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/future-perfect\/389639\/chicken-poultry-industry-mortality-death\">covered by VOX<\/a>, analyzes data reported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 2021 to break down the death rates of chickens raised for meat at all stages of life\u2014from hatchery to transportation trucks.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full report: <a class=\"_df_link \" href=\"#\" data-slug=\"report-mortality-chickens\" data-_slug=\"report-mortality-chickens\" _slug=\"report-mortality-chickens\" data-title=\"report-mortality-in-broiler-chickens\" id=\"df_46929\" data-df-option=\"df_option_46929\">Report: Mortality in broiler chickens<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key findings<\/h2>\n<p>Each year, over 500 million chickens die on farms without a reported cause\u2013 succumbing before slaughter from disease, organ failure, and neglect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The remaining birds spend their lives in overcrowded sheds, unable to stand, feed, or walk due to genetic deformities in litter riddled with ammonia and feces that have never been changed.
