<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nFRINGO CHILLS \u2013 \u2026IN NORWAY<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\nFringo Chills<\/em><\/strong> is the alias of German electronic music artist \/ synthesizer player Frank Rothe<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em> Since 2015 he has released five albums under this name (including this one), each of its titles beginning with \u201c\u2026\u201d.
\u201c\u2026 In Norway\u201d<\/strong><\/em> is inspired by the landscape, mountains and fjords of \u2013 you guessed it \u2013 Norway. And especially Norway in the Winter season, with its never-ending nights and northern lights (known as Aurora Borealis).<\/p>\nRothe\u2019s<\/em> music is firmly rooted in the German electronic scene, the \u2018Berlin school\u2019. Some parts of the five long tracks sound as if they could\u2019ve been made in the early days of Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream, the time when new possibilities of synthesizers and sequencers were explored. But at the same time, the production is definitely contemporary \u2013 it is not just nostalgic. <\/p>\nAll of the \u2018long evolving rhythms and epic soundscapes\u2019<\/em> (the longest track is just short of 20 minutes) are created with Frank Rothe on synths and sequencers, with a vocal guest performance of Katje Haring<\/em> on Aurora Borealis.<\/em>
Her beautiful soft voice and German spoken word lyrics brought me back to the moment I discovered ambient music in 1973, when I heard Ash Ra Tempel\u2019s Jenseits on the radio (from Join Inn, featuring Klaus Schulze, Manuel G\u00f6ttsching and the enchanting voice or Rosi M\u00fcller).
I had never heard anything like that before \u2013 it sounded like music from another world. Music like this was not called \u2018ambient\u2019 then \u2013 the legendary Ohr label called it \u2018Kosmische Musik\u2019 (cosmic music). <\/p>\n\u201c\u2026 In Norway\u201d <\/em>can definitely also be filed under \u2018Kosmische Musik\u2019, even though its main source of inspiration is Norway, not space. But with the right circumstances, it\u2019s easy to float away on this music \u2013 into space, to Norway, or wherever you like.<\/p>\n
