Shiny New Objects!<\/p>\n

Several weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to attend Clicker Expo in Arlington, Virginia. \u00a0I love the opportunity to spend time connecting with colleagues and students, learning interesting new things, and of course, buying new stuff! \u00a0It\u2019s a good chance to refresh and give my brain a nice creative reset. <\/p>\n

Wes and Amanda from Smart Animal Training Systems (home of the Pet Tutor) were there manning the Pet Tutor table and they had a new cool thing. \u00a0It was a smaller version of the feeder. While there was nothing different about it, except size, I was drawn to it like a magpie is drawn to shiny objects. \u00a0So shiny object #1 is the smaller sized feeder.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend I kept going back to admire the smaller sized Pet Tutor <\/a>feeder and repeatedly asked how to get one of my very own. \u00a0So now I have one! Wes asked me what it was that I liked about it so much and my response of \u201cit\u2019s cute\u201d was probably not really that insightful. \u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to the cute factor there\u2019s also the convenience of the smaller size. \u00a0I travel with my Pet Tutor a LOT. When I\u2019m taking my dogs to new places I like to have it available as a familiar way to train and to offer treats. Usually my van is crammed full of stuff I think I might need (I\u2019m not a very efficient packer!) so being able to tuck the smaller feeder into an empty corner is a great advantage. \u00a0Now I can take it everywhere! <\/p>\n

Many of us use our Pet Tutors<\/a> in crates, and taking up less crate space is a very good thing. \u00a0This is especially true if you have a small dog and a smaller sized crate. <\/p>\n

I also like the smaller size because I rarely fill the larger sized feeder, so I have to empty it out regularly. \u00a0Or I forget to empty it and then at the beginning of my next training session I end up dumping the food and starting over again. \u00a0The smaller size will definitely mean less waste. <\/p>\n

At the moment I may be one of the only people to possess this tiny wonder, but I hear it will be available soon, so keep an eye out. \u00a0<\/p>\n

So what did I do first with my small feeder? \u00a0I trained a small dog! It only seemed appropriate. \u00a0<\/p>\n

In this video I am introducing Pixel to the Pet Tutor for the first time. \u00a0I have it set up on the table to make the intro as easy and non-threatening as possible. \u00a0Pixel is a pretty resilient little guy and I didn\u2019t expect an issue, but better safe than sorry. \u00a0Plus I like to make sure my dogs understand that they don\u2019t need to interact with the feeder in order to make the treats appear. \u00a0All they have to do is wait. <\/p>\n
