Anthony had told me that he was notorious for missing flights especially when he goes out the night before. So the evening before our flight, I had told him our driver would pick us up at 5:30 in the morning and to enjoy his last night out with his boys. 5:00am rolled around and Anthony snoozed his alarm. 5:15 rolled around and he snoozed his alarm again.<\/p>\n

At 5:25am, he frantically popped out of bed, notified me of the time, took a shower, and finished packing, all while I snoozed away.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s 5:45!! Is our driver here?!\u201d he asked as he shook me awake. \u201cHuh? Oh\u2026 yeah\u2026 he\u2019s actually not coming until 6:15\u201d, I replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat??? But you said 5:30. Ohhh\u2026 well played!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

I told ya we\u2019re not missing flights.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We made it to the airport with time to spare and hopped on our flight to Hong Kong<\/a>. During our in-flight conversation, we began discussing other potential revenue streams for me so I could continue to travel but not have to teach. I again, had a mental breakdown just five short days after my first one.<\/p>\n

I feel like I\u2019m running out of money\/not making enough. I really don\u2019t enjoy teaching. I haven\u2019t put anything into savings since October 2017. <\/em><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know where to start. There\u2019s so much information out there. <\/em><\/p>\n

I won\u2019t get to explore new cities. Traveling on savings is MUCH different than being a digital nomad.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n

I need to get my IUD replaced September 2019. Do Asian countries even know what an IUD is? Will I have to go back to the US for this? What am I going to do for long term health insurance? Pay out of pocket? COBRA? <\/em><\/p>\n

I feel like the digital nomad market is super saturated. Maybe that\u2019s because that\u2019s the only people I\u2019ve been around for the last two years??? <\/em><\/p>\n

I feel like I\u2019m in a constant state of anxiety\/being overwhelmed. <\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s going to be a grind to start new again and I feel like I just did a grind with learning how to teach and build up my base of regulars. Can I mentally handle another grind?<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n

When will I find the time to learn something new? I\u2019m already exhausted after teaching and exploring new cities is how I de-stress. I don\u2019t even have time to research new places. <\/em><\/p>\n

Being a digital nomad<\/a> goes against the norm and feels like a big risk. I don\u2019t know anything about running a business. I got a degree in Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services\u2026. never once did I have to take a class relating to Business Administration. <\/em><\/p>\n

I\u2019m really not happy with my current work\/financial situation. But I don\u2019t want to live back in America quite yet.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Let me tell ya\u2026 I don\u2019t recommend having a mental breakdown on a flight. The other passengers look at you weird and there is no escaping it. You\u2019re literally stuck in a tube for three hours. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, I had calmed myself down, along with Anthony\u2019s help.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We spent the next five days in Hong Kong and to be honest, I really didn\u2019t do much besides teach, eat, and sleep because I didn\u2019t want to spend the money. We stayed on Hong Kong Island<\/a> the first two nights and then in Kowloon for the final three nights.<\/p>\n

After we checked in to our Kowloon Pentahotel<\/a>, we looked out our window from the 15th floor and saw a basketball court about 300 meters away. Anthony had mentioned he was going to play basketball that evening while I taught.<\/p>\n

Perfect! I should be able to watch him while I\u2019m teaching.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Six\u00a0o\u2019clock came and Anthony put on his workout shoes and clothes. I situated myself on the built-in bench attached to our window and started teaching. A little while later, I looked down at the court and noticed a black dude towering over the local Hong Kongese.<\/p>\n

Yay! This will be fun!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the more I kept watching, the more disappointed I was. He missed every single shot he took. He was the last person up the court. He never once got back to play defense.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Oh my gosh. He\u2019s terrible! What do I say to him when he gets home??? Pretend like I was too busy teaching to watch? Tell a white lie and say I enjoyed watching him??? I\u2019m a terrible liar though. So much for me thinking he was athletic. I mean yeah, he\u2019s coordinated in the gym, but the dude can\u2019t even make one shot or hustle!<\/em><\/p>\n

Shortly after I was done teaching, I heard the door beep and in walked Anthony.\u00a0\u201cSo\u2026 how was basketball?\u201d I casually asked.<\/p>\n

Please, please, please acknowledge it was awful so I don\u2019t have to\u2026..\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I actually went running instead. I\u2019ll play basketball another time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yes<\/em>!!!! It wasn\u2019t him on the court! Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I then told him what I had witnessed and my internal struggle of not knowing how I was going to respond.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>You\u2019re right,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re going to hurt if your kids don\u2019t play sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though I didn\u2019t really do any exploring, I still was able to observe a few things. They don\u2019t use sprayers in the bathroom which was a welcomed change from Bali<\/a>, Thailand<\/a>, and Cambodia<\/a>. The city was VERY clean. I don\u2019t know if I ever saw a piece of trash on the ground. Hardly anyone smokes \u2014 granted, we didn\u2019t go out at all so maybe it\u2019s different in the bar scene. Everything was very modern and sophisticated \u2014 their taxis had automatic doors, their buses were double-deckers, their cars were super luxurious.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

If you like tennis shoes (or sneakers\/runners for you other people), you need to go to Hong Kong, specifically Sneaker Street and Fa Yuen Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

So. Many. Tennis. Shoes! Anthony was in need of some new ones and I can\u2019t even count the number of athletic shoe stores we went into over the course of three days.<\/p>\n

1)<\/strong> Not many places had his size of 14. 2)<\/strong> There was just store after store after store, all offering different shoes.<\/p>\n

While Hong Kong was expensive and I\u2019m not sure I want to go back there, it was nice to be back in a modern and Westernized city.<\/p>\n
