Boring! Nobody wants to read about a day where everything goes right. We want adventure. We want tension. We want things to go horribly, terribly wrong. (And we want the hero to emerge from this relatively unscathed.)

In Benny’s Bad Day (Choose Your Ending Book #1), you get to choose what happens to Benny next.

Benny’s day starts with a maths test, handed out by his awful teacher who, among other things, really doesn’t like children. Open your mouth and let out a squeak – detention! Plus, she spits when she talks – ewwww!

Are you going to let Benny sit the test, answer all the questions and head on out to recess? (Hint: boring!)

Wouldn’t it be more exciting to get a few spiders involved?

Or have the classroom hijacked by a crazy goat?

Or have someone start a fire?

You get to choose what happens to Benny, his classmates and his awful teacher.

With Benny’s Bad Day, Nathan Luff and illustrator Wayne Bryant have brought back the fun of the old ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ books, and ramped up the action, mayhem and fun.

As the reader, you get to make all the decisions, and then you get to witness the results – or the fallout – both through Nathan Luff’s punchy words and Wayne Bryant’s bold and expressive illustrations.

Chaos awaits – if you choose.

And what’s more, this is only book #1 in the Choose Your Ending series.

So, maybe I am a control freak, but I absolutely loved Benny’s Bad Day and I’m already looking forward to seeing what Nathan and Wayne come up with for Book #2.

Highly recommended if you love reading stories over and over again, but sometimes want to change the plot up a little.

Title: Benny’s Bad Day (Choose Your Ending Book #1)
Author: Nathan Luff
Illustrator: Wayne Bryant
Publisher: Scholastic Australia, $16.99
Publication Date: 1 June 2026
Format: Paperback
ISBN: 9781761642791
For ages: 8 +
Type: Junior Fiction

Have you ever been reading a book where the character does something and you think, ‘No!
