Providence’s dynamic season of summer festivals continues into September with PVDFest, a citywide celebration that brings together artists, performers, musicians, food vendors and community organizations from across Rhode Island and beyond. Taking place during the joint annual meeting of the Association of State and Local History and the National Council on Public History, PVDFest offers conference attendees an opportunity to experience Providence at one of the most vibrant moments of the year.

Centered in Kennedy Plaza, the city’s civic core, and extending into surrounding downtown streets, PVDFest transforms the heart of Providence into an open-air showcase of culture, creativity and community. Visitors extending their stay after the conference will find performances throughout downtown, large-scale public art installations, live music, interactive experiences and a wide variety of local food and beverage offerings.

PVDFest highlights the artistic spirit that defines New England’s Creative Capital year-round. Providence’s compact downtown makes it easy for conference attendees to explore beyond the convention center. Within a short walk, visitors can experience nationally recognized restaurants, historic architecture, independent bookstores, galleries, cafés and public spaces throughout the downtown district.

The festival also provides an opportunity to experience Providence’s broader arts and cultural community. Museums, theaters, music venues and creative organizations throughout the city contribute to the atmosphere and energy of the weekend, offering visitors plenty to explore both during and beyond festival hours.

Whether you are interested in public history, arts and culture, architecture, food or simply discovering a new city, PVDFest offers conference attendees a memorable way to experience Providence beyond the conference. We look forward to welcoming you to the Creative Capital this September.
