This resort town on the island’s southern coast has quietly become one of the best places to eat in the Canary Islands. The stretch from Playa del Duque down to La Caleta is thick with restaurants, and the quality is far higher than the resort setting might lead you to expect. Fresh seafood landed that morning, traditional Canarian cuisine sitting happily alongside Italian and international cuisine, and terraces where the tables look straight out at La Gomera on the horizon.

Here’s the thing though. It would be impossible to have eaten in every restaurant in Costa Adeje, and I’m not going to pretend I have. So this guide is a mix of the places I go back to every single trip, and a handful of others that come highly rated and are worth your table. I’ve marked which is which, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Quick answer: the best restaurants in Costa Adeje

La Torre del Mirador – my number one, seafood and salt-baked fish with sea views

Duquesa Bistrò – young Italian chefs, homemade pasta, worth the climb up from the promenade

Coqueluche Beach Bar – barefoot seafood snacks and cocktails on the sand

Cala Restaurant – beach-club vibes, live music, ocean views

El Rincón de Juan Carlos – two Michelin stars at the Royal Hideaway Corales, for a special occasion

The Ginger Pig Bar and Kitchen – the buzzy crowd-pleaser for burgers and comfort food done well

La Caleta – a whole fishing village of good restaurants, five minutes up the coast

Costa Adeje sits on the sunny south-west coast of Tenerife, in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a 20-minute drive from Tenerife South airport. It runs seamlessly into Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos, so wherever you’re based in southern Tenerife these restaurants are within easy reach. It’s the island’s most upmarket resort area, and the food scene reflects that, though you can still eat brilliantly without spending a fortune, especially in La Caleta.

La Torre del Mirador: the one I go back to every time

If you only book one dinner in Costa Adeje, make it this one. La Torre del Mirador is the restaurant I return to on every trip, and the welcome is a big part of why. The staff remember faces, nothing is too much trouble, and you’re looking out over the water the whole time you eat.

The menu is huge and covers everyone, which makes it a rare spot that works for a relaxed family lunch, a date night and a special occasion alike. The fresh seafood is the reason to come. Order the seafood paella to share (€76 for two, 30 minutes to cook), and don’t miss the sea bass baked in a salt crust (€36), which the waiter fillets at the table. It comes away in flaky white pieces off the bone, and it’s the dish I think about between visits.

There’s a dedicated children’s menu, vegetarian options across the starters and salads, a long list of Canarian wines by the region, and a live seafood counter if you want to push the boat out on lobster or red prawns. Ask for a table with outdoor seating and you’ll get the ocean views that make the place.

Good to know: closed Tuesdays. Book ahead, especially for a window table. The Adeje area now holds a cluster of Michelin stars, most of them inside its smart hotels, so if you’re marking a special occasion this is where to do it.

The headline act is El Rincón de Juan Carlos, which holds two Michelin stars and sits on the rooftop of the Royal Hideaway Corales Beach, the hotel we stayed at and loved. Brothers Juan Carlos and Jonathan Padrón run the kitchen, and the tasting menu takes traditional Canarian cuisine and local produce somewhere thrilling, served with a personal warmth you don’t always find at this level. It has the polish of two stars without the hush and stiffness that can come with them. It’s the special occasion restaurant in southern Tenerife, and one to book well ahead.

In the same hotel, Il Bocconcino holds one Michelin star and serves a refined Italian tasting menu with handmade pasta, olive-tree gardens and ocean views. This old fishing village on the southern coast has become one of the best places to eat in southern Tenerife, and the loop of restaurants around the little harbour is the reason. Many are still family-run, the fresh seafood comes off boats you can see from your table, and I’ve eaten my way around most of them. The truth is you can pick almost any terrace and eat well. Book ahead for Exencia and for weekend evenings anywhere on the harbour.

Where to eat by occasion

For a special occasion: El Rincón de Juan Carlos at the Royal Hideaway Corales for two-star Michelin dining, or Exencia in La Caleta.

For a romantic dinner: La Torre del Mirador for sea views, or Picamar for tapas on a quiet terrace.

For families: La Torre del Mirador and Duquesa Bistrò both make children welcome, and the Ginger Pig is a hit with older kids.

For a relaxed lunch by the sea: Coqueluche on La Enramada beach, or tapas at El Makami.

For a big night out: Cala for the beach-club buzz, or a slow evening working around the La Caleta harbour.

How much does eating out in Costa Adeje cost?

Costa Adeje is one of the pricier parts of Tenerife to eat out, in line with its upmarket reputation. As a rough guide, expect the price range for a main course of fresh fish to run €30 to €38 at the smarter seafront restaurants, with paella and rice dishes priced per two people. La Caleta and the tapas spots are noticeably kinder on the wallet, where you can share several plates, Canarian potatoes with mojo and a bottle of Canarian wine for a fair bit less. One tip worth knowing is that rice dishes and paella usually take around 30 minutes to cook to order, so factor that in rather than arriving starving.

FAQs

What is the best restaurant in Costa Adeje?

La Torre del Mirador is my personal pick, for the seafood, the sea views and the warm welcome. El Rincón de Juan Carlos, on the rooftop of the Royal Hideaway Corales Beach, holds two Michelin stars. Il Bocconcino at the same hotel and Donaire at the GF Victoria each hold one. All serve Canarian-rooted tasting menus and need booking well ahead.

Where is the best area to eat in Costa Adeje?

The seafront around Playa del Duque has the smartest restaurants, but La Caleta, a five-minute drive up the coast, has the best concentration of good places in one walkable stretch.

Is La Caleta worth visiting for dinner?

Yes.
