A good weekend starts in Lodi. And from there, the weekend writes itself.<\/p>\n
Summer in Lodi doesn’t really announce itself; it just settles in. The berries are sizing up on the vine, the light lingers well into the evening, and the Delta Breeze rolls through most nights to take the edge off the afternoon heat. Wine country moves at an easy pace this time of year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And here, you don’t need a script, a special occasion, or even a reservation to feel right at home. That’s the whole spirit of Lodi wine country: come as you are, sip as you please, and let the weekend unfold. Many of our 60-plus tasting rooms welcome walk-ins with a smile and a pour, so you can plan a little, plan a lot, or simply arrive.<\/p>\n
There’s one more reason this summer feels special. In June, Parade and Steller named Lodi the national winner of the America’s Favorite Small Towns 2026 competition<\/a>, selected from a pool of 300 nominated towns. The judges pointed to the region’s agricultural heritage, vibrant culture, and deep-rooted community pride \u2013 the same qualities you’ll feel within an hour of arriving.<\/p>\n So here’s how you might spend 48 hours in America’s favorite small wine town. Consider it a loose sketch, not a script. The best discoveries here are often unplanned.<\/p>\n Start downtown, where School Street’s historic storefronts hold most of Lodi’s coffee scene within a few walkable blocks. A few favorites:<\/p>\n Trail Coffee Roasters<\/strong><\/a> roasts small-batch beans grown on the owner’s own farm in Nicaragua, and the house-made syrups (try the honey lavender) are worth the stop alone.\u00a0<\/p>\n Brew House Coffee<\/strong><\/a> pours a velvety nitro cold brew in a laid-back space that works just as well for lingering as for grabbing and going.\u00a0<\/p>\n Ruby’s Bakery and Caf\u00e9 <\/strong><\/a>turns out buttery croissants and beloved sugar buns from scratch, with lattes to match. Get there early; the line runs out the door on weekends.<\/p>\n Caffeinated? Drift outward toward the vineyards while the roads are still quiet and the morning air is cool.<\/p>\n Book a wine experience or taste on a whim; the wines here are made for unrushed conversations. Three ways to start, depending on your mood:<\/p>\n Klinker Brick Winery<\/strong><\/a> is home of the legendary “Old Ghost” old-vine Zinfandel, a bold, concentrated red drawn from vines planted a century ago, with a sunny patio and courtyard framed by those same gnarled vines. Walk-ins are welcome as space allows; call ahead on busy weekends.<\/p>\n Macchia Wines<\/strong><\/a> pours a deep, playful lineup of Zinfandels daily and welcomes walk-ins. They’re family- and pet-friendly, and outside food is fine, so feel free to linger.\u00a0<\/p>\n Acquiesce Winery<\/strong><\/a> is the move if white and ros\u00e9 wines are your thing: an all-white-and-ros\u00e9 house specializing in Rh\u00f4ne varieties, where Grenache Blanc was the very first vine planted. Look for Granny Smith apple, orange peel, and stone fruit in the glass.<\/p>\n Find a spot that leans local. Klinker Brick winemaker Joseph Smith sends visitors to Thai Spices<\/strong><\/a>, and Estate Crush’s Bob Colarossi points them to Pietro’s Trattoria<\/strong><\/a>, a Lodi institution for house-made pasta in a garden setting.\u00a0<\/p>\n Prefer to stay among the vines? Oak Farm Vineyards<\/strong><\/a> and Michael David Winery<\/strong><\/a> both offer on-site dining, so you can pair lunch with your next pour.\u00a0<\/p>\n Or pack your own. Block 21 Winery<\/strong><\/a> and Goodmills Family Winery<\/strong><\/a> both encourage guests to pack a picnic, so you can spread out a lunch of your own alongside a bottle of award-winning wine.<\/p>\n Fresh food and a glass of wine, no need to check the time.<\/p>\n Try something new: a wine, a winery, a backroad. Lodi grows more than 130 grape varieties, more than any other region in the country, so follow your curiosity.<\/p>\n Harney Lane Winery<\/strong><\/a>, farmed by the same family since 1900, welcomes walk-in groups of six or fewer. Look for the Henry Ranch Albari\u00f1o, all lime zest and mineral freshness, made for a warm afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n Bokisch Vineyards<\/strong><\/a> is Lodi’s Spanish-variety specialist, set in the rolling Clements Hills with views that stretch for miles. Look for the Tempranillo, one of the estate’s flagship reds, rich and robust with notes of cherry and leather.<\/p>\n Want to go where the locals go? Some of Lodi’s best small-lot wines are poured in an unexpected place: industrial blocks on the east side of town.<\/p>\n Drava Wines<\/strong><\/a>, run by brothers Steve and William Carson, makes just a few hundred cases a year, drawing inspiration from the old wine regions of Slovenia and Croatia.\u00a0<\/p>\n St. Amant Winery<\/strong><\/a> has been a Lodi staple since 1979, operating out of an unassuming industrial tasting room. Look for the Barbera, a bright, food-friendly red with the juicy acidity that makes you reach for a second glass.<\/p>\n However you like to explore, Lodi makes room for it: swing by on a whim, or book ahead for something more hands-on. There’s room for both the drop-in and the planner here.<\/p>\n As the light softens and the tasting rooms wind down, let the evening arrive on its own schedule. Head back into town and find a table with a great local wine list, so the last pour of the day is still a Lodi one.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Oxford Kitchen & Gastropub<\/strong><\/a> puts a modern British spin on farm-to-table cooking and pours a curated selection of Lodi wines.\u00a0<\/p>\n Market Tavern<\/strong><\/a> works wood-fired pizzas, hand-cut steaks, and an extensive local list from a patio made for a warm evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n And Jimmy’s<\/strong><\/a>, in the original Pietro’s space, is a love letter to old-school Italian-American dining, all cold martinis and lingering nights.\u00a0<\/p>\n Order a Lodi bottle, and let dinner run as long as it wants.<\/p>\n No alarm. Brunch. Keep the day gentle: a lazy paddle on Lodi Lake, a float down the Mokelumne River, a dip in the pool, or one last tasting before the drive home.<\/p>\n If you have time for a final pour, the Lodi Wine Visitor Center<\/strong><\/a>, crowned the region’s “coolest tasting room” by the San Francisco Chronicle, pours exclusively wines made from Lodi grapes and is the perfect place to discover a bottle to take home.<\/p>\n We asked Lodi winemakers where they send visitors (and go themselves). Nothing beats a cold root beer float from A&W on a hot summer evening!<\/p>\n Guantonio’s<\/strong><\/a> – Kendra Altnow, Partner & Sustainability Manager, LangeTwins Family Winery & Vineyards. From pizzas with farm fresh ingredients to interesting wines, it’s a weekly family dinner the whole family looks forward to.<\/p>\n Lodi Lake<\/a> & the Mokelumne River<\/strong> – Jonathan McMahan, Winemaker, Macchia. His favorite way to spend a Lodi afternoon happens on the water, not in the tasting room.<\/p>\n A handful of things we tell every first-time visitor:<\/p>\n Take your time and stay hydrated. That’s the point of the whole weekend, and summer afternoons here mean it.<\/p>\n Dress in layers anyway. Days run warm, but evenings cool off once the breeze arrives.<\/p>\n Walk-ins are welcome at many tasting rooms.
