It\u2019s also having major effects on global agricultural markets and, with them, the world\u2019s tropical rainforests.<\/p>\n<p>American farmers are being squeezed: fertilizer and fuel costs are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/energy\/en\/news-research\/latest-news\/agriculture\/040126-us-corn-soybean-farmers-face-rising-fertilizer-fuel-costs-amid-middle-east-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">rising<\/a> due to the war, and export markets remain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/energy\/en\/news-research\/latest-news\/agriculture\/020625-us-farmers-could-permanently-lose-key-markets-amid-trumps-tariffs-diplomacy-trade#:~:text=Platts%2C%20part%20of%20S&amp;P%20Global,top%20three%20markets%2C%20sources%20said.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">volatile<\/a> from Trump\u2019s tariffs. In response, the administration is <a href=\"https:\/\/civileats.com\/2026\/03\/30\/trump-administration-boosts-biofuels-in-effort-to-ease-farmer-woes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">boosting<\/a> biofuel mandates to drive up demand for biofuel crops like corn and soy while cutting reliance on imported oil.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/news\/31032026\/trump-biofuels-targets-threaten-rainforests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">reporting<\/a> from Inside Climate News, a major problem with the plan is that the U.S. simply doesn\u2019t have enough vegetable oil to meet the mandated increases. The gap will be filled by imports \u2014 and those imports will be filled by clearing rainforests.<\/p>\n<p>The same reporting <a href=\"https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/news\/31032026\/trump-biofuels-targets-threaten-rainforests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">cites<\/a> Princeton researcher Tim Searchinger, who found that biodiesel expansion under the mandate could drive 7 million additional acres of tropical deforestation globally, generating three to four times more emissions than the biofuel (which has lower emissions) would save by displacing fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, Trump is obliterating a Massachusetts-sized rainforest and accelerating climate change to Band-Aid an energy and export crisis that his blunderous foreign policy helped unleash.<\/p>\n<p>The bombs falling on Isfahan are connected \u2014 through energy shocks, input and export strains, and resulting policy decisions \u2014 to the chainsaws tearing through the world\u2019s last great rainforests.
