I like airline brands that know how to have some fun with their advertising campaigns. It\u2019s that time of the year, and airlines are once again busy fooling their distracted social media followers and customers while\u2026<\/p>\n

The SimpliFlying research team spent\u00a0the last weekend tracking most of the April Fool\u2019s Day worldwide. We have done a roundup of the best airline advertising campaigns, and we announce the winner of the\u00a0SimpliFools Award<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the airline with the most innovative prank at the end.<\/p>\n

For those interested, here are\u00a0some of the best April Fool’s airline advertising campaigns in the past decade –\u00a02022<\/a>, 2016<\/a>, 2014<\/a> and 2013<\/a>!<\/p>\n

The JetBlue Snack Mask<\/h2>\n

JetBlue launched a “snack mask”, a whiteboard where you could state your meal preferences. I found the humour to be slapstick, but hey – it was April Fool’s Day!<\/p>\n

SWOOP allows free emotional baggage<\/h2>\n

SWOOP is an ultra-low-cost airline in Canada that charge for bags.\u00a0They ran a campaign that highlighted their bag fee, while\u00a0declaring\u00a0that “emotional baggage” is free!<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s a good thing \u2013 because don\u2019t we all have a bit more of that coming out of the pandemic? Especially while travelling, where we\u2019re all a bit out of practice, it can be stressful at the best times, and air travel seems more emotionally charged than ever.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sail the Emirates Sealine<\/h2>\n

Emirates launched its first cruise – the Emirates Sealine – an ultra-luxurious cruise liner from the Dubai airline.\u00a0The very creative\u00a0press release<\/a> from the airline quoted Captain Jack Shallow, the newly appointed Chief Maritime Officer at the helm of Emirates\u00a0Sealine,<\/p>\n

\u201cTechnology, AI and innovation in developing our future-generation cruise ships mean we can mirror the city\u2019s pace and sail at more than 50 knots per hour \u2013 nearly double the speed of the fastest ones today.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Emirates Sealine\u2019s liners will dock at major cruise ports \u2013 charting a course from the US to New Zealand \u2013 supported by the airline\u2019s colossal network. Perhaps feed will be provided by the Emirates A380s?\u00a0Bookings open soon for its maiden voyage to Karachi on 1 April 2024.
