I do love a listy post. I was contemplating doing one of my archive \u2018Five Feat<\/a>\u2018 posts about Brooklyn, one of NYC\u2019s five boroughs, but when I started looking for posts, I found there were just tons of them! <\/p>\n

What is it about Brooklyn? <\/strong><\/p>\n

A few facts: It\u2019s the most populous part of NYC, and is situated at the western end of Long Island. It was originally a separate city, and would now be the 4th most populous one in the US after Manhattan, LA and Chicago. It was named after a Dutch town in the 17thC, and was annexed to become part of NYC in 1898. It has become a crossroads for immigration from all over the world, being very cosmopolitan. It is a cultural centre for the arts, which perhaps explains why so many writers live or were born there. You can find out more about Brooklyn on the Wikipedia page<\/a>. There\u2019s even a page for Brooklyn writers<\/a> with over 200 listed \u2013 but ironically it doesn\u2019t feature the late Paul Auster (although his wife Siri Hustvedt is there).<\/p>\n
