I think that goes without saying these days. We\u2019ve got some incredible breweries in the city, and when a new beer competition rolls around, I tend to sit on the edge of my seat to see if the rest of the world around us recognizes that the way that I do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turns out they usually do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2026 US Open Beer Championships up in Oxford just wrapped up, and it was another good one. This is the third biggest competition in the country, and ever since 2009, Cincinnati has been bringing home a whole trophy case of awards. To date, our local breweries have won 358 medals, as well as plenty of other awards, bringing plenty of excitement back home to their respective taprooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s competition had more than 180 categories and subcategories with breweries from all around the world competing\u2026 and while I admit my bias, it\u2019s hard to say that anyone made the splash that Cincinnati did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the city took home:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grand Champion<\/li>\n<li>Brewery of the Year<\/li>\n<li>16 Gold Medals<\/li>\n<li>21 Silver Medals<\/li>\n<li>17 Bronze Medals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s get to this!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This Year\u2019s Winners<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Third Eye<\/strong><br \/>Not only did the city\u2019s most award-winning brewery (by far) take home an additional 9 medals this year, they also took home Brewery of the Year for their size as well as the massive honor of Grand Champion. They tied Maui Brewing Company for the most medals won in any year (Maui also brought home 9 medals in 1990) \u2013 this was a huge year for Third Eye, and they deserve a HUGE shout out.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Double Astral \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Kelly\u2019s Private Stash, Ferd\u2019s Addition \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Kelly\u2019s Private Stash, 2024 \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Mocha Operandi \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Unleashed Potential \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Jelly Brain \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Kelly\u2019s Private Stash \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Barrel-Aged Celestial Reserve \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<li>Barrel-Aged Dark Aura \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rhinegeist<\/strong><br \/>Rhinegeist might not get the press for winning medals that some other smaller places do, but that doesn\u2019t mean that they don\u2019t deserve it. While my tracking might not be perfect (I think it\u2019s pretty darn good), the brewery has taken home more than 75 Medals (that\u2019s not counting some of the other awards that they\u2019ve won). These folks are right there at the top of the list of award-winning breweries in town.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cincy Light Lime \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Mexican Hot Chocolate Mushhushshu \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Call Yer Rep \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Grapefruit Bubbles \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Uncle \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Slow Jam \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Narrow Path<\/strong><br \/>Narrow Path, out in Loveland, is one of my favorite quiet medal winners. They win a TON of awards, including some big ones, all while quietly chugging away in their small brewery tucked along the bike path. They aren\u2019t flashy, they aren\u2019t loud, but they make some of the best beer in the city\u2026 It\u2019s well deserved.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Better Burden \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Guabanero \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Tri-Kettle Tripel \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Ghost Railroad \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<li>Missing Linck Honey Saison \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sons Of Toil<\/strong><br \/>If you haven\u2019t been out to Sons of Toil, I\u2019ll forgive you. Their location in Mt. Orab keeps them as a bit of a hidden gem on the outskirts of Greater Cincinnati. That doesn\u2019t mean that if you\u2019re a fan of great beer, you shouldn\u2019t plan a visit. Beer fans all over town are getting the memo that if you\u2019re looking for an afternoon out, they might be worth the trip.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Double IPA \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Orange Cream Ale \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Red Ale \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<li>Mango Habanero NEIPA \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<li>Strawberry Candy Crushable \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fabled Brew Works<\/strong><br \/>They have only been open since 2023, but Fabled has certainly made waves in that time. They are letting folks know that they are serious about winning hardware, and serious about making beer that covers the whole spectrum of what that term means these days. Make a visit\u2026 you\u2019ll thank me later.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wicked \u2018Wich, Grape \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Barrel Aged Nightmare \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Misty Mountain IPA \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Rockin\u2019 The Rainbow Road \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Municipal Brew Works<\/strong><br \/>Municipal helped turn their hometown of Hamilton around when they opened their doors, and have had a hard time keeping up with demand ever since. They are the perfect patio to spend a summer evening, and the beer that they\u2019re serving up is perfect for it. I love these guys, and seeing their name on a list of winners ALWAYS brings a smile to my face.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Laoch \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Approachable Blonde \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Ehren\u2019s Island Breakfast \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<li>Ehren\u2019s Stout \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Streetside<\/strong><br \/>Another one of those small taprooms that SOMEHOW manages to make a huge splash in what they do. Streetside toes the line perfectly between traditional beers and those trendy styles that move the needle on the internet. They might be fun to talk about, but they\u2019re even more fun to drink, which is why when they win, it only makes sense.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>And In The Darkness Bind Them \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Summertime Sadness \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Black Cats \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Return Of The Mac \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Gravel Road<\/strong><br \/>As a brewery that LOVES historical styles, has traditional cask ale on tap, and only serves out of their taproom in Middletown, Gravel Road isn\u2019t the type of place that you\u2019d expect to take home lots of medals. I mean that in the nicest way\u2026 As you can see by these three medals, though \u2013 none of that is because of their beer, which is not only fun\u2026 but delicious, too. This is a taproom that everyone will enjoy, but beer geeks will fall in love with.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Abbey Lubber \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>A Gentleman\u2019s Draught \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<li>Driving On The Left \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nine Giant<\/strong><br \/>Just because you\u2019re operating one of the city\u2019s best brewpubs, that doesn\u2019t mean that you can\u2019t do it by making world-class beer. Just stop in to Nine Giant for a crash course on what it means to do BOTH at the same time. Their space around the corner, called The Fermentorium is the spot where you can find most of the smaller batch, rare releases\u2026 but if you go without stopping for a meal at the main spot, you\u2019re doing it wrong.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Candy Floss, Peach Brandy Barrel-Aged \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Cassavetes \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Quiet Light \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Urban Artifact<\/strong><br \/>Not only is Urban Artifact incredible at making fruit beer (fruit tarts, as they call them) \u2013 but they\u2019re also spectacular at pushing boundaries with unique products that no one else is doing. When I see them win for THOSE? I mean\u2026 that makes for a very, very happy Gnome.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gadget \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Astronaut Food, Strawberry \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<li>Ohio Sake, Cherry \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Brink<\/strong><br \/>Is it really a brewery competition if Brink\u2019s Moozie doesn\u2019t win? The most award-winning beer in the city does it again, and Brink adds another two medals to their impressive list of 63 Medals (20 of those are for Moozie) \u2013 huge congrats to Brink\u2026 now I want a Milk Stout.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>El Lauro Muro \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Moozie \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Darkness<\/strong><br \/>Darkness is another small taproom, one of those spots that reminds me of when breweries were breweries. They are hyper focused on their neighborhood, aren\u2019t afraid to make beer that pushes style boundaries, and will win you over immediately with their personality. None of those things win you awards, though \u2013 great beer does\u2026 luckily for them they have that, too.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mayan Sacrifice \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Shoplifter \u2013 Silver Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wandering Monsters<\/strong><br \/>Wandering Monsters might have duck pin bowling and barbecue, but they make sure that you don\u2019t forget that they\u2019re an incredible brewery too by cranking out some of the city\u2019s most fun beers. Through collaboration, creativity, and an amazing little monster mascot \u2013 their beer will keep you coming back for more.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Krispy Koi \u2013 Gold Medal<\/li>\n<li>Hullbreaker \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CinBev<\/strong><br \/>This beer doesn\u2019t need an introduction. It has been winning medals in the city for literally decades, and is easily one of the longest running medal winners in Cincinnati. OG doesn\u2019t even begin to describe it\u2026 and the fact that it\u2019s still out there doing its thing??? Hell yeah.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Little Kings \u2013 Bronze Medal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Grainworks<\/strong><br \/>Grainworks has spent the last few years growing their taproom, dialing in the experience that their customers have, and working to bring in their new food partner \u2013 but through all of this, they\u2019ve also been working their butt off to keep innovating on the brewery side of things. It\u2019s a great spot to grab a beer, and if you\u2019re an IPA fan?
