Here are the details.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-1062937\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-last-year-s-f1-success-also-played-a-part-in-this-quarter-s-services-slowdown\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Last year\u2019s F1 success also played a part in this quarter\u2019s Services slowdown<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/apple.co\/4jFGPYe\">released<\/a> its Q3 2026 financial results, reporting $30.7 billion in Services revenue, a record for a third fiscal quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although that was up 12% year over year, it marked the segment\u2019s first sequential decline since 2022, down from $30.98 billion in the previous quarter. It was also Apple\u2019s slowest Services growth since Q2 2025 and its weakest Q3 growth rate since 2023.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1510\" height=\"1576\" src=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?quality=82&amp;strip=all\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1062906\" srcset=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg 1510w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=125,130 125w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=655,684 655w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=768,802 768w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=981,1024 981w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=1472,1536 1472w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=335,350 335w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=140,146 140w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=958,1000 958w, https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2026\/07\/q3-services.jpg?resize=150,157 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1510px) 100vw, 1510px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Part of this slowdown, as Apple CFO Kevan Parekh explained, was due to \u201csome factors that impacted the performance of the App Store,\u201d which is traditionally one of Apple\u2019s biggest revenue drivers in its Services category.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Apple does not break down Services revenue on a per-stream basis, estimates cited last year by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/apple-stock-service-value-growth-analysis-f265a5e7?utm_source=chatgpt.com\"><em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> suggested that the App Store accounts for nearly one-third of this category\u2019s revenue. Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.antitrustinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Epic-v-Apple-N.D.-Cal.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">findings<\/a> from the Epic v. Apple case showed that gaming apps alone accounted for approximately 70% of App Store revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back to today\u2019s earnings call and the slowdown of Apple\u2019s Services revenue, Parekh said:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also had some factors that impacted the performance of the App Store. We did see some headwinds in mobile gaming. And keep in mind, we also made some changes to the App Store business model in certain countries. And in the US, we do continue to operate under a court ruling impacting the link-out transactions. But we\u2019re pleased the Supreme Court will hear our appeal. Despite this, the App Store set a June-quarter revenue record.\u2029<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past year, Apple has had to comply with new rules allowing alternative app distribution, payment methods, and out-of-app purchase offers in markets including <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2025\/12\/17\/apple-announces-sweeping-app-store-and-iphone-changes-in-japan\/\">Japan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2026\/06\/18\/apple-announces-major-app-store-changes-for-brazil-including-alternative-app-marketplaces\/\">Brazil<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2025\/06\/26\/apple-announces-sweeping-app-store-changes-in-the-eu\/\">European Union<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, due to the Epic Games lawsuit, Apple has been temporarily barred from charging any commission on purchases made through external links in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Supreme Court is <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2026\/06\/30\/supreme-court-agrees-to-hear-apple-appeal-over-epic-games-ruling\/\">currently reviewing<\/a> whether Apple can be held in civil contempt for charging off-App Store commissions, even though the lower-court injunction did not explicitly forbid it. At the same time, the lower court is considering what commission, if any, Apple can charge on such purchases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly, weaker App Store gaming commissions were not the only factor behind the slowdown in Apple\u2019s Services growth. According to Parekh, the year-over-year comparison was also affected by the success of <a href=\"https:\/\/apple.co\/4jFGPYe\">F1 The Movie<\/a> in the prior-year quarter:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We [had] the theatrical release of F1, which is one of the highest-grossing, you know, sports films in history. And this year, we didn\u2019t have a theater release.
