The warm weather is in full <\/span>swing<\/span>
\n and I am personally reaching for many of my Italian white wines, ros\u00e9,
\nsparkling wines. \u00a0This week I tasted the 2023 Ca\u2019 del Sarto Pinot Grigio
\n from the Fr<\/span>iuli
\nDOC of northeastern Italy. \u00a0If you\u2019ve been following along my journey
\nyou already know that I love the white wines of northern Italy, but
\nafter my trip a few years back to the Friuli wine region I have a deeper
\n respect for what the producers are doing in this tiny nook of It<\/span>aly.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Yes<\/span> Pinot Grigio is <\/span>probably one<\/span> of Italy\u2019s most popular white grapes, but Pinot Grigio <\/span>isn\u2019t<\/span> just Pinot Grigio if <\/span>you\u2019ve<\/span> had the quality and variety of Pinot Grigio produced in the northeastern part of Italy. \u00a0You can <\/span>take a look<\/span> back at my tasting of Pinot Grigio in <\/a><\/span>Friuli<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span> see just from the color of the Pinot Grigi<\/span>o in the glass that producers can produce many <\/span>different styles<\/span> of Pinot Grigio. \u00a0If you break outside the mold of <\/span>the all<\/span> mass marketed Pinot Grigio sold on the market and look for those sold in the wine regions of Friuli<\/span> Venezia Giuglia and the Trentino Alto <\/span>Adige<\/span> you will be in for a treat.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I <\/span>didn\u2019t<\/span> find much in my research on Ca\u2019 del Sarto other than the fact that <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> a collaboration with many of the top producers and <\/span>Enotec<\/span> Imports as the negociant since 1998. \u00a0<\/span>They work with producers that <\/span>producing<\/span>
\n hand-crafted and small batch productions with a focus on quality
\ngrapes. \u00a0The story began with two friends in Friuli who handpicked
\nproducers to work with and sourced Pinot Grigio from them <\/span>where the wines resulted in \u201cauthentic expressions and modern wines<\/span>\u201d.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The 2023 Ca\u2019 del Sarto Pinot Grigio Friuli DOC<\/b><\/span> was a brilliant straw color in the glass. \u00a0Floral, Tropical (pineapple) aromas along with lemon citrus and stone fruit. \u00a0<\/span>This wine was dry, m<\/span>edium-bodied on the palate and <\/span>refreshing with a <\/span>puckering,<\/span> acid<\/span> backbone<\/span>.<\/span> \u00a0Tart citrus notes with small touches of stone fruit through the lingering finish. \u00a0<\/span>I scooped this wine up on sale for $9, but online it ranges up to $16.<\/span> ABV 12.5%<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pairings with Pinot Grigio<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This wine will pair well with <\/span>a both<\/span> shellfish and seafood, pork or chicken and lighter fare including salads and appetizers.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
