If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be truly celebrated by your community, the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce has an answer. All you have to do is show up on August 5th.

This year’s Athens Community Appreciation Party is happening at Eclipse Company Store in The Plains from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It’s free, it’s open to everyone, and it’s one of those events that genuinely reminds you why living in Athens hits different.

What to Expect

The evening is packed from start to finish. There’s live entertainment, a reverse vendor fair where local businesses come directly to you instead of the other way around, the Kona Ice truck, and a full spread of treats and appetizers courtesy of AACC sponsors.

The first 100 people to register also walk away with a complimentary Community Appreciation Party swag bag. However, it’s limited to one per household, so signing up early is worth it.

What’s a Reverse Vendor Fair?

If you’ve never been to one, here’s the deal: instead of you wandering from table to table at a traditional vendor fair, local AACC member businesses walk around the event and personally hand you their swag, discounts, and marketing materials. It’s a much more natural way to meet the businesses that make Athens what it is, and it makes for a surprisingly fun evening of conversation and community connection.

Why This Event Matters

The whole point of the Athens Community Appreciation Party is simple: local businesses want to say thank you to the people who keep showing up for them. That kind of relationship between a community and its local economy is rare, and Athens has always had it in a way that bigger cities simply don’t.

Whether you’re a longtime Athens resident, a student settling into off-campus life, or someone who just moved to the area, this isn’t something you should miss out on. So come hungry, come curious, and come ready to meet the people who make this town worth living in.
