Hey there! It’s been a long time since I sat down to write on this blog. But today, I decided to take a break from everything and do something I really enjoy – writing and painting.

Of late, life has been pretty crazy, dealing with all sorts of unexpected things. You know those phases that come out of nowhere and make you feel how little control we have over this thing called life? Well, I’ve been going through one such tough phase once again – dealing with personal emergencies and trying to cope with grief. I’ll share more about it in my next post as I’m still trying to come to terms with the biggest loss in my life.

For now, let me share some recent reads that had come to us for review and we thought they are worth sharing. As you know we love reading and exploring new books for young readers but we don’t necessarily review every book that comes our way That’s been our steadfast rule, keeping Kiddingly an honest and impartial source of reviews so far! :).

Now, let me tell you about the book that recently caught my eye – “Shanti and the Knot of Protection.” We’ve always had a thing for books that spill the beans on diverse traditions and cultures, especially when it comes to rakhi. We’ve covered quite a few rakhi-related reads on Kiddingly before. And this gem by Amrita Roy Shah, illustrated by the talented Fariha Mastur, is like a portal into a world of tradition, love, and values.

Picture this: a beautifully crafted story that introduces you to the magic of Rakhi, the festival that’s all about celebrating the bonds that hold us together. The story takes you on a journey that spans time, from a historical tale of a young queen in India seeking protection from a neighborhood king to the modern-day diverse form celebrations that warm your heart.

And, did I mention the illustrations? They are absolutely beautiful. Fariha Mastur’s art done in a classic Indian style depicting the royal queen and her surroundings is like a visual feast for the little readers. Each image transports you to the colorful landscapes of Rajasthan, complete with palaces, historical characters, and the vibrant spirit of Rakhi.

What truly steals the show are the values woven into the story’s fabric. The main character, Shanti, shines a light on four core values – strength, curiosity, community, and security. These aren’t just words; they’re the threads that bind the story together and leave you with a heartwarming message.

And here’s the cherry on top: The book doesn’t just tell a tale; it invites you to be a part of it. With DIY Rakhi-related activities at the end, it’s a chance for your little ones (or the little one inside you) to dive into the cultural experience hands-on.

This book will also make a wonderful Rakhi gift too! Imagine gifting someone not just a beautifully illustrated story but also a piece of culture and tradition along with a cute handcrafted Rakhi.

So, whether you’re after heartwarming tales or thoughtful gifts, this book’s got your back. It’s the kind that sneaks into your heart and stays put, reminding us of the magic in connections, values, and life’s little joys. Hang tight for more tales and thoughts, folks!

And we will be sharing some new doodles too soon. In the meantime, you may explore the previous ones at our Creative Corner.
