A former Moonee Ponds nuns\u2019 residence been transformed into a $3.065m modern masterpiece concealed behind its period facade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The four-bedroom home\u2019s owners Amanda and Matt, a builder, moved in less than two years ago following their massive renovation.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Amanda said the house at 46 Darling St <\/a>was \u201cpretty run down\u201d when they purchased, after it its former life as accommodation for nuns run by the local Catholic diocese.<\/p>\n

Moonee Ponds \u2018generational\u2019 home fetches massive $3.75m result<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest we pretty much knocked down most of the house and started again,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe kept the Victorian single front facade, as seen from the street perspective, but then everything from there on back was kind of made modern.\u201d<\/p>\n

Re-wiring and re-plumbing was part of the project, along with importing a spout for their guest powder room from Italy.<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s makeover aimed to create as much space as possible for their young family, taking the house to three storeys including a basement level fitted with a gym, theatre room and wet bar.<\/p>\n

The outdoor area with a heated pool, barbecue and louvre-roofed undercover patio has hosted special events such as Amanda\u2019s father\u2019s 70th birthday.<\/p>\n

Arabescato marble, quarried in Italy, features throughout along with chevron engineered oak floors and double-glazed windows.<\/p>\n

An open-plan living and dining area, a kitchen butler\u2019s pantry equipped with a second sink and second dishwasher, and a central bathroom with a freestanding tub complete the package.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say one of my favourite parts of the home is our lounge room with our fireplace, the kids\u2019 favourite is definitely our backyard with the pool,\u201d Amanda said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband\u2019s favourite is the kitchen in all the like the natural stone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The main bedroom is accompanied by a dressing room, while a laundry with a drying cupboard also on offer.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a central bathroom with freestanding tub, an ensuite off the main bedroom, another ensuite and a guest powder room.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The house is close to Moonee Ponds West Primary School, Maribyrnong Rd trams, Moonee Ponds train station, riverside walking trails and shops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The home gym sits adjacent to the home theatre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

The garage, accessed from a Hopetoun St laneway, provides space for two cars.<\/p>\n

Amanda said while they loved the home, she and her husband \u201ccouldn\u2019t sit still\u201d and were already keen to complete another reno project, so had decided to sell.<\/p>\n

Nelson Alexander\u2019s Jayson Watts said buyers including young families and people wanting a turnkey abode had inquired about the house.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt offers a lot of family accommodation with a low-maintenance garden,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of the best contemporary renovated period homes I have seen in almost 24 years of my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Watts added that buying and renovating a similar property would likely cost a combined $3.5m to $3.6m.<\/p>\n
