The meeting also introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/eliel-oliveira\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Eliel Oliveira<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/katrina-miller-parrish\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Katrina Miller Parrish<\/a> as the new HITAC co-chairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Committee members received updates on ONC programs designed to advance health IT innovation:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ONC shared progress on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ehignitechallenge.org\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" class=\"wpel-processed wpel-icon-right\">EHIgnite Challenge<i class=\"wpel-icon fa fa-external-link\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/a>, a national competition encouraging the development of tools that help patients better understand and use their electronic health information.<\/li>\n<li>The committee heard updates on ONC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/interoperability\/investments\/leap\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP) in Health IT<\/a> program. Current <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/interoperability\/investments\/leap\/2025-leap-health-it-projects\/#powering-proactive-care-fhir-subscriptions-as-the-foundation-for-timesensitive-patientcentered-decision-support-project-overview\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">projects<\/a> include efforts to improve remote monitoring for hypertension and to simplify patient access to health information through the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement\u2122 (<a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/policy\/tefca\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">TEFCA<\/a>\u00ae). ONC recently announced <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/about\/funding-announcements\/leap-notice-of-funding\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">2026 LEAP funding<\/a>; applications are due July 16.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting also featured two expert panel discussions, both centered on improving affordability in healthcare. The first panel explored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/initiatives\/burden-reduction\/overview\/interoperability\/policies-regulations\/cms-interoperability-prior-authorization-final-rule-cms-0057-f\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" class=\"wpel-processed wpel-icon-right\">opportunities to streamline<i class=\"wpel-icon fa fa-external-link\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/a> prior authorization and other administrative processes through greater interoperability and automation. A second panel focused on access and affordability from the consumer perspective, including how greater transparency and improved data exchange can help individuals better understand healthcare costs before they receive care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Video of the full meeting is available on HealthIT.gov.
