Have you ever wished you could give your child more personalized, one-on-one math help, but you don’t understand the math well enough to help and hiring a private math tutor is WAY too expensive?

Whether your child is falling behind, right on track, or ready for more, every child should have access to math curriculum that’s right on their level.

Here’s the thing: Mass-produced curriculum was designed for the average student, which is why kids get bored, frustrated, or overwhelmed. You need something that works for your child.

That’s where today’s sponsor, Astral: the AI Tutor For Homeschoolers, comes in.

Astral is an AI-based K-8 math curriculum that doesn’t just deliver lessons. It creates your child’s lessons from scratch, in real time, based on their unique interests, what they know, and what they still need to learn.

Astral is a complete math homeschool curriculum, not just supplemental material or a fun learning game.

It covers every K–8 math skill your child needs, meets all national and state standards, and comes with everything built in:

Your child works independently, and it only takes about 20 to 30 minutes a day. There’s a parent dashboard so you always know how they’re doing, and it works on any device.

Full disclosure: My kids go to a private school during the school year, and I homeschool them during the summer (though less so as they’re getting older).

But I’m a big believer in finding the schooling solution that works best for your unique family. So what works best for you might not be what works best for me and vice versa.

Astral may be a great fit if any of these sound like you/your child:

You can learn more about Astral Tutor and grab a 14-day free trial here.

Getting started with Astral is pretty straightforward.

First, you’ll go to their website, create an account, and answer a few set up questions, including your name, contact information, and faith preferences as well as your child(ren)’s name, age, grade level, interests, and learning difficulties (such as dyslexia or ADHD).

This information helps Astral create math lessons that are customized to your child, their needs, and their preferences.

After you finish setting up your account, it takes about 15 minutes for the AI to generate the initial 2-4 diagnostic lessons.

The first 2-4 lessons are discovery lessons where the AI is learning how your child approaches math, identifying their strengths and their gaps.

Once your child completes these initial lessons, you’ll receive a full grade-level mastery report showing exactly where your child stands across all national standards.

Then the personalized teaching lessons kick in, built specifically to close your child’s gaps using AI tutoring, videos, games, and more.

On the parent side, the dashboard gives you a clear view of what your child is working on, which skills they’ve practiced, how they’re doing on each one, and what’s coming up next.

You can see all your children in one place, check the leaderboard to see how they’re doing, and click into any child’s progress for a more detailed view.

Inside a child’s progress, you can see their learning arcs, which specific skills they’re working on, how many lessons they’ve completed on each skill, and how they’re performing, whether they’ve barely started on something or have been working on it for a while. There are several charts that make this easy to read even if you’re just doing a quick check-in.

You can also see the full lesson history, including which lessons they’ve completed, on which days, what’s currently in progress, and what’s coming up next. So even if your child is working independently in the next room, you always have a clear record of exactly what they’ve learned and how they’re doing.

Want to see exactly how Astral works before you commit? Here’s my honest take so you can decide for yourself which things are pros or cons, non-issues or dealbreakers.

I’ll be honest. I have mixed feelings about using AI with kids. I use AI myself all the time, but I’m an adult using it to speed up tasks I already know how to do — not a child who is still rapidly developing. None of us fully knows yet what the long-term effects of normalizing AI with children will be, and that does concern me.

However, I will say that Astral has done the work to create a safe, closed, math-only environment where your child can get the help they need while dramatically reducing your child’s risk.

Your child can’t access the Internet through their Buddy (nor can the Internet access them). And when I tried to get the AI Buddy off topic, it gently but firmly redirected me back to the math lesson right away. It isn’t a generic, multi-purpose chat box. It’s definitely designed to explain math concepts clearly and patiently.

Furthermore, parents are able to see a complete log of any conversations their children have with their AI Buddy (whether via text or voice). It does take a few clicks to find it, but it gives me huge peace of mind as a parent to know that my child can’t have a private conversation with AI about questionable topics (with or without my knowledge).

And most importantly of all, when I raised a concern with the Astral team about a potential workaround I found, they immediately disabled the feature in question (within hours, even though it was the weekend), invited any further feedback I might have, and shared the plans they already had to make the platform even better.

This shows me that they aren’t just throwing a product into the marketplace. They really care about getting this right and keeping it safe for kids.

My overall take: While I do have some concerns about the future of AI with children, I see the potential downside of using this AI technology as very, very small compared to the tremendous benefit it can offer the right family.

At $100 a month, this is not the budget option, and that’s okay. While there are families who would genuinely love this program and still not be able to afford it, Astral would be well worth the investment for the right family.

For comparison, consider that a private math tutor typically runs $60 to $120 an hour, and that’s one session a week if you’re lucky. Astral gives your child a fully personalized lesson every single day for a fraction of that cost. If you’re looking for personalized, engaging help without private tutor costs, Astral is an affordable solution.

And yes, you could download free worksheets from the internet and piece together a curriculum for almost free. But the money you save doing that, you’re going to pay for in hours of cobbling things together, figuring out what your child has already learned, checking against state standards, and actually teaching the math yourself.

It all comes down to what your family needs, what you can afford, and what trade-offs you’re willing to make. And they do offer a 14-day free trial (no credit card required) so you can try it out before you commit!

Astral is genuinely unlike anything else I’ve seen in the homeschool curriculum space. This isn’t a collection of learning games. It isn’t a supplement you pull out a few times a week. It’s a personalized, fully interactive homeschool math tutor powered by AI, and that distinction matters.

Do I have concerns about AI? Yes, but you know your child’s needs better than anyone and only you can decide what level of risk you’re comfortable with. Overall, the risks are very small and can easily be overcome with just a little oversight.

No math curriculum is perfect, this one included. But if your child needs a patient, personalized teacher who will go at their exact pace, explain the same concept ten different ways without ever getting frustrated, and make them feel capable rather than behind? That’s incredibly hard to find.

If you’re looking for a complete, personalized, patient math curriculum that saves you time, meets your child exactly where they are, and grows with them all the way through 8th grade, this is it.

Learn more and start your 14-day free trial today.

!["Astral]("https://equippinggodlywomen.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Astral-homepage-1-768x364.png.webp)
