You can see this concern plainly in the commercials that the mainstream group with fringe views makes and runs.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s one that attacks Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate candidate from Maine. NRSC is particularly concerned about Platner\u2014they\u2019ve aired half a dozen new Susan Collins ads in the past few months.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Susan Collins: A Senator You Can Be Proud Of\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/okIWOzGOAlQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSusan Collins doesn\u2019t have a Nazi tattoo.\u201d They\u2019re serious, but this is comedy nevertheless.<\/p>\n<p>What does Susan Collins have stuck to her like a tattoo? Oh, let\u2019s see\u2026decades of support for institutional corruption and unchecked imperialism. Her mistakes are deadly, whereas Platner\u2019s are merely dumb.<\/p>\n<p>In this next attack ad from NRSC, they remake a Platner ad (also posted below) and continue to disparage his background. The idea they\u2019re forwarding\u2014that Platner\u2019s an elitist, not a common oysterman\u2014might be true, but it definitely doesn\u2019t disqualify him from being a Senator. He went to Hotchkiss? Check. He is a gentleman farmer? Check. This makes him Senate material, and is, in a weird and unintended way, a gift to Platner from the GOP.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Meet the Real Graham Platner\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/21Y0LNk0lSo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the original animated video from Platner\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Our new ad, featuring an animated version of Maine almost as beautiful as the real thing.\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0REj289DgMk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The race in Maine is getting lots of press attention right now. <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/adHzmDI4LXw?si=2a0psdYAvGf1hwEm\"><em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> points out that Platner didn\u2019t arrive on the scene on his own. He was handpicked by a group of independent activists\u2014Daniel Moraff, Leanne Fan, and Morris Katz. Katz is a partner at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fight.agency\/gallery\">Fight Agency<\/a> in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Moraff is a recent graduate of Yale Law School. He said about Platner\u2019s campaign and its emphasis on authenticity, \u201cThere\u2019s this whole world of people who\u2019ve built careers out of the Democratic Party and its ecosystem, and who put out the kind of campaigns where a normal person can look at it and say, \u2018This looks and sounds like shit.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Katz was recently featured in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/01\/25\/style\/morris-katz-political-strategest-mamdani.html\"><em>The New York Times<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIn seeking to rebrand the (Democratic) party, Katz professes an aversion to phonies so strong it would make Holden Caulfield blush,\u201d the newspaper said. Which explains the following F-bomb-laden video from Platner. <em>It\u2019s how people talk<\/em>. Why leave it on the editing floor?<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How We Got Here\" width=\"840\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LlqcLoe3bjM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Platner is complicated. He talks like a regular guy and makes regular guy mistakes, but he also says he needs to \u201ccommune with the bivalves,\u201d in the video above. That\u2019s good. We need more people who have read Emerson, Whitman, and Thoreau in the U.S. Senate. People who won\u2019t waste a soldier\u2019s life on political theatrics. People who will protect our natural resources from the ravages of extractive industries.
