\"bookkeeping<\/a>Running a small business in South Africa is not easy. Cash flow equipment costs and rising input prices can make it hard to grow even when you have a solid client base and good ideas. The Department of Small Business Development has re launched the Asset Assist Programme which gives qualifying businesses a chance to access a grant of up to R250 000. As your accounting partner PATC wants to make sure you know about this opportunity and understand how to approach the application.<\/p>\n

What is the Asset Assist Programme<\/h2>\n

The Asset Assist Programme is a funding initiative from the Department of Small Business Development.<\/p>\n

It is aimed at Micro Small and Medium Enterprises that need support to invest in productive assets.<\/p>\n

If your application is successful you can use the grant for:<\/p>\n

Only up to twenty percent of the total grant amount may be used for stock and raw materials.\u00a0The main focus of the programme is on assets that help you produce more grow faster and create jobs.<\/p>\n

The current closing date for applications is 9 January 2026 at 23h59 and applications are processed on a first come first served basis.<\/p>\n

Once the available budget is allocated the call for applications may close early which is why preparation and timing are important.<\/p>\n

Who can apply for the Asset Assist grant<\/h2>\n

The programme has clear eligibility criteria.<\/p>\n

You may be able to apply if:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \n

    Your business is South African owned<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    You are registered with CIPC<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Your business is tax compliant with SARS<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Your annual turnover is R1 million or less<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    You operate as a company or as a sole proprietor with proper documentation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The programme does not support:<\/p>\n

    If you applied before and were not approved you are allowed to try again under this new call as long as you still meet the criteria.<\/p>\n

    What you need for the application<\/h2>\n

    The Asset Assist application is not a simple form. You will need to provide several documents that prove that your business exists trades lawfully and can use the funding responsibly.<\/p>\n

    Typical requirements include:<\/p>\n

      CIPC registration documents<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      A company profile<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      FICA documents for all owners or directors, certified ID copies and proof of residence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • \n

        Proof of tax compliance from SARS<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Proof of the business address<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Twelve month financial projections<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Twelve month financial statements or management accounts if you are already trading<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Proof of a business bank account and recent bank statement for existing businesses or a bank confirmation letter for start ups<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
