In my recent Fallout 4 livestream, I spent an hour building a concrete
\n building in Sanctuary Hills, hoping to make something that felt like a
\n vertical stronghold. I set out with grand ambitions: a six-story tower. But
\n game mechanics had other plans.<\/p>\n

Limits met: when buildings hit the ceiling<\/h3>\n

\n I laid out the foundation and began stacking floors. In theory: six stories.
\n In practice: the game only let me construct three usable floors. I ran up
\n against the build-height limit in the settlement. As many players note, each
\n settlement in Fallout 4 has a \u201cheight cap,\u201d meaning you can only build so high
\n depending on location.<\/p>\n

\n Despite some attempts to push it, stairs, concrete modules, multiple floor
\n segments, the engine wouldn\u2019t allow more usable levels. Several players
\n online have observed similar behavior: at some point during building in
\n Sanctuary Hills the game will kick you out of workshop mode if you exceed the
\n vertical build limit.<\/p>\n

Still: I made the most of what I got.<\/p>\n

Furnishing the Fallout high-rise<\/h3>\n

Even with just three floors, I tried to make the interior feel lived-in:<\/p>\n

    \n I added six beds<\/strong>, enough to house a small group of
    \n settlers.\n <\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    \n I placed four small tables<\/strong>, each topped with a
    \n lamp<\/strong>, powered by a small generator,<\/strong>\u00a0enough to give the building a gritty, lived-in vibe rather than just a
    \n bare shell.\n <\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    \n The result wasn\u2019t a skyscraper, but it felt like a functional apartment
    \n block, post-apocalyptic style.\n <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Questing after the build: buffing up for the wasteland<\/h3>\n

    \n After wrapping up the building project, I shifted gears in the livestream: I
    \n started on the \u201ctempest buff\u201d quest for Preston Garvey. I geared up, prepped
    \n for the mission, but cut the stream just before heading into the Corvega
    \n Factory. That\u2019s where I plan to pick things up next time.\n<\/p>\n

    What I learned, and what\u2019s next<\/h3>\n

    \n Even though I didn\u2019t end up with a six-story tower, I\u2019m still pretty happy
    \n with the results: a modest, functional building in Sanctuary that gives
    \n settlers, or my own character, a decent home. The build-height limit may
    \n have clipped ambitions, but it also forced me to be strategic about space and
    \n design.\n<\/p>\n

    \n Next livestream I\u2019m heading to Corvega Factory to continue the quest for
    \n Preston, and after that maybe I\u2019ll try a taller build using a different
    \n settlement (some spots in Fallout 4 have higher build-height limits).\n<\/p>\n
