He has a book called Adorable and I know you\u2019re going to love it. He\u2019s here to tell us about it along with his journey to publishing\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Ron Kinscherf is an anomaly. In a world where only twenty percent of us say they are doing what they do best every day, Ron has discovered two things he is able to do very well.<\/p>\n<p>After a successful career in IT consulting, he began making up stories to tell his grandchildren.<br \/>Soon, he became a children\u2019s book author, not because he always dreamed of being one, but simply<br \/>because he loves his grandchildren and creating stories that make them smile.<\/p>\n<p>It happened like this: One Sunday night at the Kinscherf Family dinner he mused about what he might do next in life. His daughter in law suggested \u2013 quite out of the blue \u2013 that he at least take a look at being a children\u2019s author. Ron did take a look and as they say, the rest is history.<\/p>\n<p>He is about to publish his 11th book, Adorable, and they have all been very well received and loved by those who have read them and those who have heard the heartfelt tales he pens.<\/p>\n<p>In Adorable, the protagonist, Prince Antrew, couldn\u2019t be happier! It\u2019s Spring and the weather is perfect for his morning flight around the patio. Life is good \u2026 until he arrives at the Palace and meets his new little sister, Princes Adorable. Why would his mother, the Queen, do this to<br \/>him?! The Prince flies away as fast as he can, mad at the whole world. On his flight he runs into Wise Owl, the smartest creature in the neighborhood who gives him a different perspective on the change happening with his family. The Prince then rushes home to talk to his mother, armed with this new perspective.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more, go to: <a href=\"https:\/\/papatellmeabook.com\/\">https:\/\/papatellmeabook.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>About Ron Kinscherf<\/p>\n<p>Ron Kinscherf quit a 30-year career in IT Consulting with absolutely no idea for future<br \/>employment. At their regular Sunday Kinscherf Family dinner, his daughter-in-law had a<br \/>suggestion. Why not start writing children\u2019s books? She had seen how Ron created stories<br \/>that engaged and amused his grandkids.<\/p>\n<p>In the beginning, he didn\u2019t take her suggestion seriously. But then, he got an idea while<br \/>watching his grandson stomp on the ant hills around his back patio. He wondered how the<br \/>ants might feel about having their homes destroyed. So began The Baker\u2019s Patio series of<br \/>books, including The Bakers\u2019 Patio, Flight School, The Sultan, The Monster, The Festival,<br \/>I\u2019m With Me, Yummies, and his latest book, due out soon, Adorable.<\/p>\n<p>Kinscherf\u2019s style is for both the child and the reader\u2026 understanding that the more the adult<br \/>likes the book, the more likely it will get read again and again. His keen sense for dialogue<br \/>and humor is interwoven throughout his works.<\/p>\n<p>Q &amp; A with Author Ron Kinscherf<\/p>\n<p>Q. At an age when most people are retiring, you have launched a new career<br \/>writing children\u2019s books. Tell us a little about how that happened.<\/p>\n<p>A. We have family dinners every Sunday night. One night we were talking about<br \/>what I was going to do next with my life. I said \u201cI could drive a school bus.<br \/>They\u2019re always looking for school bus drivers.\u201d Then, out of the blue, my<br \/>daughter-in-law said \u201cYou could write children\u2019s books. The way you play with the<br \/>kids is so creative. It seems to come naturally to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And I sort of brushed that off and didn\u2019t take it seriously at all. I thought it was just<br \/>a side comment. And it might\u2019ve been the next Sunday that I was outside<br \/>barbecuing and my grandson started stomping on ant hills, and I\u2019m just sitting there<br \/>watching him destroy all these poor ants\u2019 houses. And I thought, \u2018I wonder how<br \/>the ants feel about this?\u2019 And that was the seed of an idea and I kind of created this<br \/>world where the ants have their ceilings destroyed or houses being destroyed. They<br \/>are looking up wondering what in the world is going on? And then I got the idea<br \/>that this happened every week when a grandson would come by. And then I got<br \/>another idea and another idea and then I started writing.<\/p>\n<p>Q. What do you hope happens when parents and kids read your books?<\/p>\n<p>A. I just want the parent to enjoy reading it and that maybe the book leads to a<br \/>conversation. And I want their child to have a good time. I want the kids to smile. I<br \/>want them to ask questions about the book. It\u2019s pretty simple, really. If you create<br \/>something, no matter whether you are a songwriter or a painter or anything, you<br \/>just want people to enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>Q. So, your father who passed away when you were 5, worked for Golden<br \/>Books? What are the chances?<\/p>\n<p>A. Yeah. That\u2019s pretty crazy, isn\u2019t it? My dad worked for one of the biggest<br \/>children\u2019s book publishers and then decades later I became a children\u2019s book<br \/>author. Things like this make me believe in Kismet, little winks that make me<br \/>think there\u2019s a Plan and I am just a part of it.<\/p>\n<p>My dad was very creative. One of my favorite possessions is something that I<br \/>remember him drawing with watercolors that we have on our wall, and my wife<br \/>got that framed for me, and it is just something we found one day going through<br \/>some stuff. I think I got my artistic bent from him. I\u2019ve always been creative. When<br \/>I was in radio, I did parody commercials and sold them, and that was back in the<br \/>old days, we didn\u2019t have computers and all that. So, you had to be creative. I also<br \/>did play by play for 25 years. And that\u2019s a version of storytelling and creativity,<br \/>too. But nothing like this.<\/p>\n<p>Your books all have a strong sense of community and strong female characters.<br \/>Talk about that for a minute.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s kind of interesting. I had written a number of manuscripts and wasn\u2019t to the<br \/>point of publishing anything yet. One of my friends mentioned that she was so<br \/>happy that my little ant colony had such a strong female character \u2026 the Queen \u2026<br \/>running things. It hit me. My father passed away when I was five. I had no idea I<br \/>was writing what I experienced.<\/p>\n<p>I grew up around strong women. After my father\u2019s death, my mom didn\u2019t remarry.<br \/>She went on to get her psychiatric degree and she became the first psychiatric<br \/>nurse in this town, in this community I grew up in and still live in. She did that for<br \/>the rest of her life.<\/p>\n<p>She was given an award one time for her service to the community. When she gave<br \/>her acceptance speech, she thanked the neighborhood because it was an old<br \/>Catholic neighborhood, a couple blocks from the parish and the church. We all<br \/>looked out for each other because a couple of the other families had loss \u2026 one<br \/>family had eight kids, another family had six. <\/p>\n<p>e had a kid living with us that<br \/>wasn\u2019t in our family for a while, and he bounced around from house to house. If<br \/>my mom needed to do something, I\u2019d run across to another house and play in the<br \/>backyard of somebody else\u2019s house and I never gave it a second thought. <\/p>\n<p>So, I think there was this unwritten agreement among all these families in the<br \/>neighborhood that they would keep an eye on each other. And she said in her<br \/>speech that she wouldn\u2019t be here without the neighborhood. It was a real<br \/>community and we all were better off for it.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Ron, for being here today and telling us about your incredible journey. You are an inspiration to many. Your books have wonderful messages for children. I\u2019m glad you shared them with your grandchildren as well as the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>And thank you to my loyal blog followers.
