{"id":341591,"date":"2025-12-13T07:01:50","date_gmt":"2025-12-13T07:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/uncategorized\/machado-plans-venezuela-return-says-trumps-pressure-has-weakened-maduro-regime\/"},"modified":"2025-12-13T07:01:50","modified_gmt":"2025-12-13T07:01:50","slug":"machado-plans-venezuela-return-says-trumps-pressure-has-weakened-maduro-regime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=341591","title":{"rendered":"Machado Plans Venezuela Return, Says Trump\u2019s Pressure Has Weakened Maduro Regime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>By Evgenia Filimianova<\/p>\n<p>Venezuelan opposition figure and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mar\u00eda Corina Machado has said she plans to return to Venezuela despite security risks, adding that U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s pressure campaign has left Nicol\u00e1s Maduro\u2019s government \u201csignificantly weaker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters in Oslo, Norway, on Dec. 11, Machado said she would go back to the country when she thinks \u201cthe security conditions are right,\u201d adding that her decision \u201cwon\u2019t depend on whether or not the regime leaves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Machado, a former presidential candidate and one of Venezuela\u2019s most prominent dissidents, had not appeared publicly for 11 months. She traveled to Norway despite a travel ban imposed by the Maduro government in 2014 and amid uncertainty over her whereabouts.<\/p>\n<p>She arrived in Oslo hours after the Nobel ceremony, where she was honored for her advocacy of democratic freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>Machado credited Trump\u2019s approach to Venezuela for weakening Maduro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the actions of President Trump have been decisive to reach where we are now, where the regime is significantly weaker,\u201d she said on Dec. 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause before, the regime thought it had impunity. \u2026 Now they start to understand that this is serious, and that the world is watching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump, speaking in October, said he spoke with Machado by phone the day she learned of her award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today, called me, and said, \u2018I\u2019m accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it,\u2019\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>Machado said she would return to Venezuela even if Maduro remains in power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCertainly, I will be with my people, and they will not know where I am. We have ways to do that and take care of us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Growing US\u2013Venezuela Tensions<\/h2>\n<p>Machado\u2019s statements came as U.S.\u2013Venezuela tensions have recently intensified.<\/p>\n<p>On Dec. 10, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-says-us-has-seized-oil-tanker-off-coast-of-venezuela-5956457\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> the United States had seized an oil tanker off Venezuela\u2019s coast, adding that the decision was taken for \u201ca very good reason\u201d and that details on its ownership would follow. U.S. Attorney General\/Handout via Reuters<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The move followed months of U.S. military <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-says-us-has-seized-oil-tanker-off-coast-of-venezuela-5956457\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">actions<\/a> targeting alleged narcotics smuggling vessels in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. buildup, the largest in the region in decades, is part of a broader strategy that Washington says is designed to disrupt cartels and transnational criminal networks.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuelan authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-says-us-has-seized-oil-tanker-off-coast-of-venezuela-5956457\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denounced<\/a> the tanker seizure as \u201cblatant theft\u201d and vowed to \u201cdefend its sovereignty, natural resources, and national dignity with absolute determination,\u201d saying they would bring the matter before international bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Trump warned in a Nov. 29 post on Truth Social that airspace over and around Venezuela should be considered \u201cclosed in its entirety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, he told reporters during a Cabinet meeting that strikes on land were imminent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to start doing those strikes on land, too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, the land is much easier \u2026 and we know the routes they take. We know everything about them. We know where they live. We know where the bad ones live. No. Never, never war,\u201d he said last month when asked about U.S. military activity near Venezuela\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Norway Meeting and Covert Travel<\/h2>\n<p>On the morning of Dec. 12, Machado met Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, who said Norway was prepared to assist a democratic Venezuela in \u201cbuilding new and sound institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Machado said she believed the Venezuelan government did not know where she had been staying since early 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCertainly they would have done everything to stop me from coming here,\u201d she told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>The 58-year-old declined to disclose how she reached Norway.
