{"id":340474,"date":"2025-12-12T13:11:56","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T13:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/uncategorized\/foto-funnies-sixteenth-in-a-series-library-of-american-comics-2\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T13:11:56","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T13:11:56","slug":"foto-funnies-sixteenth-in-a-series-library-of-american-comics-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=340474","title":{"rendered":"\u201cFoto Funnies\u201d (Sixteenth in a Series) \u2013 Library of American Comics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p>In the days before phones could take pictures, before social media sites where even the most innocuous photographs were shared worldwide, the old saying went, \u201cPeople love seeing their pictures in print.\u201d Having one\u2019s phizz snapped by a photographer, to appear days or weeks later in the pages of magazines or daily newspapers was a Big Deal that drove many to buy extra copies for posterity.<\/p>\n<p>Cartoonists were no different from anyone else in that regard and perhaps more so than most, since they recognized the value of publicity when it came to promoting their work. So we conclude our look back at <em>Cartoonist PROfiles<\/em>, the long-running \u201cunique quarterly magazine for the professional, the cartoon buff, the student, and all who enjoy cartoons,\u201d\u00a0by showcasing photographs featuring creators whose art has graced various Library of American Comics books. We begin with a brace of images featuring Alex Raymond (<em>Flash Gordon<\/em>, <em>Jungle Jim<\/em>) that date from the end of the 1940s and include a visual report on his trip to the University of Connecticut, as the artist researched a future <em>Rip Kirby<\/em> story. John Prentice\u2019s picture was snapped at an event where cartoonists showed off their \u201cfine art\u201d efforts. This group also includes a taste of the salty and the sweet. The salty: Alex Toth\u2019s photo accompanied his article \u201ccorrecting\u201d (as only Alex could!) several inaccuracies of memory by Neal Adams that had surfaced in a previous <em>PROfiles<\/em> issue; the sweet: Bil (<em>Family Circus<\/em>) Keane turned a TV appearance into a self-deprecating laugh.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure brushes the surface of the many photos and accompanying articles on comic strip creators, political cartoonists, animators, advertising men, and comic book artists that filled each issue of <em>Cartoonist PROfiles<\/em>.
