In the Classic and Postclassic Maya realms, that signal may have glinted softly from a child\u2019s ears.<\/p>\n<p><span>A recent analysis by Yasmine Flynn Arajdal, published in <\/span><em>Childhood in the Past<\/em><span>,<\/span><span> examines hundreds of artistically rendered Maya children to determine when ear ornaments first appeared and why they mattered so profoundly.
