Hello, friends!

I have some really fun posts coming up, including:

-

- how romanticizing rescue can be harmful (thanks for the inspiration, Cari),

- the three hidden senses we and our dogs have beyond the basic five, and how understanding them can help us be better dog people

- what I wish I knew before adopting two deaf dogs

- and more!

But, today, I have a favor to ask of you, and I have a little menu of three free and extremely helpful asks below.

Why?

Well, I started writing FOR THE LOVE OF DOG during the pandemic. It took a couple years of chipping away each morning before Violet, then 2, and Astrid, then 3 months, were up for the day. Then it took another couple of years to land an agent and then sign a publishing contract. And then it took ANOTHER year to go through edits, marketing, cover, etc. So, all told, I am five years into this project and {{drumroll}}

FOR THE LOVE OF DOG COMES OUT SEPTEMBER 16!

I’m trying to find the balance between continuing to create content here, on Substack, and on Instagram that is interesting, entertaining, and dog-centric AND selling this dang book. Because, these days, even with a traditional publisher, the bulk of the marketing is on the author. And literally all of the publicity. And the sales, too.

I also know it’s not the time to ask people to spend money. (I mean, if you want to, I’m not going to stop you… the book is available in paperback and ebook anywhere you like to buy books… check out the full list of retailers here OR ask your favorite indie bookseller to order you in a copy!)

However, there are three free ways to support an author and a book launch. If you have a few minutes, I would be so very grateful if you were to do one (or all!) of the below:

-

- If you use Goodreads, add it to your shelf! Click that link, then click “Want to Read” on the left-hand side!

- Request your library acquire a copy. Here’s all the info most libraries need to know for their online forms or in person so you can just copy & paste:
Title: For the Love of Dog
Author: Maggie Marton
Publisher: Regalo Press (distributed by Simon & Schuster)
Publication date: September 16, 2025
ISBN: 9798888456910
Length: 224 pages
Audience: Adult
Genre: Nonfiction

- Share anything at all on social media! I am trying to be everywhere all at once, but it turns out that’s impossible! Here’s my Instagram. Sharing anything is super helpful to get the book in front of people who don’t already know me.

Finally, if you’re near central Indiana and want to come to the book launch party, I would absolutely love to have you. Send me an email info(at)ohmydogblog(dot)com so I can get you the invitation.

If you know me, you know asking for help is next to impossible. (Eldest daughter syndrome, gifted program, my daughter says I have undiagnosed ADHD, etc etc etc)

I want to apologize for the imposition of even asking, BUT I’ve recently learned from a dear friend who reminded me that people actually love to help each other… So, instead of apologizing, allow me to say THANK YOU.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here, for reading my ramblings about dogs for these past 16 years that led to this moment. I am so grateful and so filled with gratitude.

Also, if you do any of the above, please head over and fill out my pre-order form so I can send you stickers and goodies as a tangible way to show my gratitude.
