Every woman reaches a moment in life when she wonders what it would look like to step toward God instead of away from Him. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes it happens in a quiet season. Sometimes in a chaotic one. And sometimes it shows up in the form of a simple question that lingers in the back of your mind. Hey, you begin wondering how to come to Jesus in a way that feels real and honest. I\u2019ve noticed this question rising in conversations, emails, and even in my own heart during different seasons. <\/p>\n

It usually grows from a desire for peace and a longing to feel anchored again. <\/p>\n

This is where the first takeaway becomes clear. God meets us in genuine curiosity. <\/p>\n

The second takeaway is that the journey is far more relational than it is religious. And the third is that God does not shame us for wanting to come home. He welcomes it.<\/p>\n

When I revisited the Prodigal Son story today in my own Bible study time, I saw this truth all over again. <\/p>\n

The moment the son began thinking about returning home, something shifted. <\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t fully understand what he was doing. No, not at first. <\/p>\n

Yet the desire was enough to begin the journey. <\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need the perfect prayer or spiritual vocabulary. You do not even have to be inside a church!<\/p>\n

Here is what you do need: <\/p>\n

You need an honest awareness of where you are and a small, brave step toward the One who loves you.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Prodigal\u2019s journey began long before he ever reached his father\u2019s house. <\/p>\n

It started the moment he became aware of the emptiness created by his choices.<\/p>\n

In my NASB version, the verse in Luke 15 says \u201cwhen He had come to his senses\u2026\u201d he said something. <\/p>\n

Anyway, that moment is familiar to many women \u2013 and men too for that matter. <\/p>\n

You feel tired of carrying life alone. <\/p>\n

You sense that your heart wants something truer. <\/p>\n

You wonder how to come to Jesus without pretending to be someone you\u2019re not. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s a turning point that feels vulnerable. <\/p>\n

Yet it\u2019s also a moment filled with possibility.<\/p>\n

For years I\u2019ve written about faith here on GodsyGirl.com, and I\u2019ve noticed that coming to Jesus begins as an inner shift.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the gentle realization that life without Him feels incomplete. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s the awareness that strength, peace, and guidance might actually be available. <\/p>\n

And it\u2019s the surprising hope that maybe God is not distant at all. <\/p>\n

Regardless of who you are or what you\u2019ve done, He is closer than you imagined. <\/p>\n

That kind of realization doesn\u2019t happen because of pressure. <\/p>\n

It happens because Jesus draws near to seekers.<\/p>\n

What the Prodigal Son Teaches Us About Grace<\/h2>\n

Grace appears before the son ever reaches home. <\/p>\n

When his father sees him from a distance, he runs toward him. <\/p>\n

This detail reveals so much about how to come to Jesus in a world full of mixed messages about faith. <\/p>\n

The son had prepared a long speech. <\/p>\n

Remember? He even rehearsed it. <\/p>\n

He tried to convince himself he didn\u2019t deserve anything good. <\/p>\n

Yet the father interrupted him with compassion. <\/p>\n

At first, I was like \u201cDang, the father didn\u2019t even say anything back!\u201d <\/p>\n

But actually, it did something more important and more precious than any words. <\/p>\n

He put the wheels in motion for full restoration. <\/p>\n

He turned to his slaves and said \u201cQuickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put the ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.<\/em>\u201d (See Luke 15:22)<\/p>\n

The story shows the heart of God. <\/p>\n

Your Heavenly Father who loves you so much.<\/p>\n

He moves toward us faster than we move toward Him.<\/p>\n

Us Daughters Can Make it Harder<\/h2>\n

Reading the story again reminded me how often we women assume that coming to Jesus requires perfection.<\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s a gender thing. <\/p>\n

We think we have to do more or be more.<\/p>\n

Yet the opposite is true. <\/p>\n

The son had no gifts to offer. <\/p>\n

No promises to make. <\/p>\n

No spiritual r\u00e9sum\u00e9. <\/p>\n

He came home exactly as he was. <\/p>\n

And God invites us to do the same. <\/p>\n

When you\u2019re wondering how to come to Jesus, remember this picture of grace. <\/p>\n

It counters every fear of not being enough. It softens every attempt to earn God\u2019s approval. <\/p>\n

It quiets the silly pressure so many women feel to be polished before they approach God.<\/p>\n

What Coming to Jesus Looks Like Today<\/h2>\n

Many people think faith is about memorizing rules. <\/p>\n

I used to. <\/p>\n

Well, if I\u2019m honest, I still struggle with that legalism. <\/p>\n

But modern research in faith formation, including work from the Barna Group, shows something very different. <\/p>\n

People move toward Jesus through relationship, support, safety, and honest conversations. <\/p>\n

They grow through personal reflection and connection, not through pressure. This is good news if you are still learning how to come to Jesus in a way that feels natural.<\/p>\n

Coming to Jesus today looks like taking small, steady steps. It might start with exploring Scripture on your own. <\/p>\n

It might be asking your first honest prayer about the things weighing on you. It may be simply admitting that you want to know God more. <\/p>\n

The Prodigal Son teaches us that movement toward God is enough to begin the transformation. <\/strong><\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need a dramatic moment. <\/p>\n

You need sincerity. <\/p>\n

You need openness. <\/p>\n

You need the willingness to explore how to come to Jesus without rushing yourself.<\/p>\n

I remember when I re-dedicated my life to the Lord about 30 years ago after I strayed away from His ways. <\/p>\n

A man was the catalyst of the straying \u2013 but it wasn\u2019t it fault. <\/p>\n

I should not have been dating a man not walking with the Lord \u2013 even if he was fine as wine. *yeah, I said it*<\/p>\n

Anyway, my little boy was about two years old \u2013 barely walking. <\/p>\n

A sermon in the old church building was beign preached by Dr. George Westlake. It really hit me. It moved me. I got up, took my babies hand and we both went to the alter. <\/p>\n

I\u2019d come to myself. <\/p>\n

I\u2019d come to my senses.<\/p>\n

Walking Your First Steps Toward Faith<\/h2>\n

As you think about how to come to Jesus, imagine yourself taking one small step. <\/p>\n

Maybe your first step is reading Scripture with curiosity. <\/p>\n

You might begin with\u00a0John 3:16<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0Romans 10:9<\/a>. <\/p>\n

These verses explain God\u2019s love and what it means to believe. <\/p>\n

They are simple yet powerful. <\/p>\n

Another step might be reading posts like the ones here on GodsyGirl.com <\/a>where everyday questions about life and faith are explored in a grounded, relatable way.<\/p>\n

That is my prayer, anyway. <\/p>\n

You may also explore how to come to Jesus through prayer. <\/p>\n

Prayer is simply conversation. <\/p>\n

You can talk about your fears or your failures. <\/p>\n

You can talk about your hopes or your doubts. <\/p>\n

You can ask God to make Himself real to you. <\/p>\n

You can ask for forgiveness. <\/p>\n

You can ask for guidance. <\/p>\n

The son\u2019s prayer wasn\u2019t perfect. <\/p>\n

It was honest. And your words can be the same.<\/p>\n

It shows He is inviting you closer. It shows He is guiding your thoughts. <\/p>\n

It shows He is offering the same grace the father offered his returning son. <\/p>\n

When you explore how to come to Jesus with an open heart, you begin to notice that God has been nudging you all along.<\/p>\n

In my own life, whenever I sensed this desire growing, I had to let go of the idea that I needed to be perfect.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m still learning that Jesus doesn\u2019t require perfection. He asks for trust. <\/p>\n

He asks for honesty.<\/p>\n

He asks for a heart willing to move toward Him. That realization brings peace.<\/p>\n

Reflection helps us flesh out our thoughts and think about what the Lord is saying to us. <\/p>\n

Pasue. <\/p>\n

Get quiet. <\/p>\n

Next, consider<\/strong> where you feel distant from God and where you feel Him drawing you closer. <\/p>\n

Think<\/strong> about what the Prodigal Son felt when he wondered how to come to Jesus without even realizing Jesus would later tell his story. <\/p>\n

Reflect<\/strong> on what you hope faith will offer you. Write those thoughts down. Let them guide your prayers this week.<\/p>\n

You might even challenge yourself to take one step today. <\/p>\n

Read a passage. <\/p>\n

Say a simple prayer. <\/p>\n

Or talk to a trusted Christian friend. <\/p>\n

These small steps become a pathway toward a deeper relationship with God. <\/p>\n

And as you walk it, remember the father running toward the son. That\u2019s the heart of Jesus running toward you.<\/p>\n
