The order, placed by energy-focused AI infrastructure firm Crusoe,\u00a0represents\u00a029 turbines and more than 1.21 gigawatts of planned generation capacity for data centers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The deal comes alongside a $300 million funding round led by Darsana Capital Partners, giving Boom what it says is the remaining capital needed to complete the Symphony engine and\u00a0continue\u00a0certification work for\u00a0its\u00a0Overture\u00a0supersonic\u00a0airliner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Superpower turbine is engineered specifically for AI data-center demand, which has outpaced what utilities can supply in many regions. The unit uses the same high-pressure core that Boom designed for sustained thermal loads in supersonic cruise, allowing it to\u00a0maintain\u00a0full rated output even in ambient temperatures above 110\u00a0degrees\u00a0F. The turbine also\u00a0operates\u00a0without water, addressing one of the\u00a0chief\u00a0constraints for modern data-center growth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSupersonic technology is an accelerant,\u00a0of course for faster\u00a0flight, but now for artificial intelligence as well,\u201d said Blake Scholl, Boom\u2019s founder and CEO. \u201cWith this financing and our first order for Superpower, Boom is funded to deliver both our engine and our airliner.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crusoe plans to use the turbines as dedicated power sources for its next generation of AI compute facilities. Chase\u00a0Lochmiller, Crusoe\u2019s co-founder and CEO, said the company is searching for technologies that can increase real-world efficiency and accelerate deployment timelines as AI\u00a0workloads surge. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to be partnering closely with Boom as the launch customer for Superpower,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Superpower\u2019s design centers on Symphony\u2019s large high-pressure core, which Boom intended to run at elevated temperatures for\u00a0the majority of\u00a0a supersonic\u00a0flight. The turbine adds a dual-fuel combustor capable of burning natural gas or diesel, along with backup diesel capability. According to Boom, its material choices and thermal-management\u00a0approach allow the turbine to avoid the power de-rating seen in many\u00a0other turbine\u00a0engine\u00a0during hot-weather operations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boom plans to scale turbine production to more than four gigawatts annually by 2030 as part of a broader US manufacturing expansion. The company says 95%\u00a0of Symphony\u2019s core parts for the first prototype are already in production, with engine testing scheduled for 2026 at Boom\u2019s Colorado test site.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new funding round includes Altimeter Capital, ARK Invest, Bessemer Venture Partners, Robinhood Ventures and Y Combinator. Darsana Capital, the lead investor, said Boom\u2019s approach fits its long-term strategy in aerospace,\u00a0defense\u00a0and emerging technologies.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cBoom has assembled an incredible team and executed with impressive discipline,\u201d said Steve Friedman, a partner at Darsana. \u201cTheir focus on first delivering supersonic technology to create a high-performance power turbine business reflects a smart, capital-efficient path to building the next great American industrial company.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boom said\u00a0revenue from Superpower will feed directly into Symphony\u2019s development and Overture\u2019s certification program.
