Are you looking for the most beautiful roads in Sweden? There are quite a few! While I can imagine you\u2019d think Sweden is all forests and lakes, that\u2019s not the case. In fact, you\u2019ll find rugged coastlines, towering mountains, glaciers, and more. In this article, I\u2019ll share the most beautiful roads in Sweden: all of them personally traveled, not just taken from somewhere else online. Enjoy reading and enjoy road tripping!<\/p>\n

For me, the Wilderness Road (Vildmarksv\u00e4gen), along with the next road on the list, is among my personal favorite roads in Sweden. Although it\u2019s very personal, I think there are few people who don\u2019t enjoy the unique Wilderness Road. The road begins and ends in Str\u00f6msund in J\u00e4mtland and takes you over the high-altitude Stekenjokk to Swedish Lapland. And\u2026 I even live on the Wilderness Road, in the village of Dorotea. The Wilderness Road is 500 kilometers long and open each year in summer, between June 6th and October 15th.<\/p>\n

Flatruet route<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Flatruet is the highest road in Sweden, located at 947 meters above sea level. It connects the villages of Fun\u00e4sdalen and Ljungdalen in the province of J\u00e4mtland. Much of the route is unpaved, but you can generally drive it without any problems with your campervan or car. I drove the Flatruet (\u201cFlat road\u201d) from the south and really enjoyed the empty but stunning landscape. At the summit, there\u2019s a parking lot with many campervans, but I didn\u2019t want the crowds and camped a few kilometers past the highest point, with just one other campervan in sight.<\/p>\n

Ritsemv\u00e4gen<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Ritsemv\u00e4gen in Swedish Lapland is beautiful and truly one of the most beautiful routes in Sweden! I\u2019ve driven it several times and am always amazed by the bizarre mountains that rise up from the valley. The first section of the route from the E45 is relatively flat, but after an hour or so, you can see the mountains of Sarek National Park and Stora Sj\u00f6fallet in the distance. These are some of Sweden\u2019s most rugged national parks and only accessible on foot.<\/p>\n

The paved road ends at Naturum Laponia, from where the road becomes worse and narrower. I eventually continued on to Vakkotavare, where the Kungsleden trail joins the road. From here, hikers take the bus and boat to Saltoluokta to continue their hike. At the end of the road, you\u2019ll have beautiful views of \u00c1hkka, the sacred Sami mountain. The road ends at the settlement of Ritsem.<\/p>\n

The E14 to Norway<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The E14 between \u00d6stersund and the Norwegian border is a well-maintained route with numerous scenic side roads. To your left are the mountains of the V\u00e5l\u00e5dalen Nature Reserve, and to your right are those of the \u00c5re ski resort, Sweden\u2019s premier winter sports destination. Be sure to explore the side roads; the one to Storulv\u00e5n on the Norwegian border is also highly recommended!<\/p>\n

Magic Road, Idrefj\u00e4ll \/ Nipfj\u00e4llet<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/p>\n

One of the most beautiful roads in Sweden you can do in a short time is the one from the village of Idre to Nipfj\u00e4llet Nature Reserve. You drive all the way up to the treeline, arriving at the Magic Road. It feels like you\u2019re driving uphill while you\u2019re rolling downhill. You can also encounter reindeer on this route, which makes it extra special. At the end of the road, you\u2019ll get to a large parking lot, and it\u2019s only a short walk to Nipfj\u00e4llet, a mountain offering stunning views all the way to Norway.<\/p>\n

Oresund Bridge<\/strong><\/h5>\n

I always feel a little melancholic when I drive into Sweden via the \u00d6resund Bridge, because it\u2019s always so wonderful to simply drive into Sweden in your own car. The bridge is 16 kilometers long and connects Copenhagen with Malm\u00f6. Near Copenhagen, you initially drive underground for a while, but soon you emerge onto the fantastic bridge with stunning views over the water.<\/p>\n
