In the first and second games in the series, you\u2019d pick one of eight characters and play through their storylines. Like in previous titles, each one has a class with a set of abilities and weapons that dictate their playstyle. After you\u2019ve built the workshop in Wishvale, the game turns you loose and you can travel anywhere in the world. If you\u2019d like, you can focus your time entirely on gathering companions and building your dream team. But luckily, this Apothecary is there to swoop in to save you. Together, you\u2019ll work out a plan to defeat a nasty beast, and from there on out, Esperre won\u2019t want to leave your side. He\u2019ll travel with you in hopes of learning more about medicine and following in his father\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"243\" data-current-count=\"243\" data-injectable=\"false\">As an Apothecary, he uses an axe and tome for his basic attacks, while his skills are a beautiful blend of heals, status ailments, and elemental damage. As a resident of Wishvale, he offers a regular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destructoid.com\/best-ways-to-farm-leaves-octopath-traveler-0-money-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leaf gift<\/a>, giving you money every now and then. You find them in Victors Hollow on a trial put forth by her mentor, Z\u2019aanta, and you\u2019ll have to help her take down a fearsome beast. But the real lesson is, of course, companionship. You\u2019ll find her first outside of Sunshade and then once again outside of Flamesgrace, and both times, she\u2019ll want to battle you to try to steal your ring. Her obsession with you and your jewelry makes more sense after you hear her story during the Heidne and the Man-Eating Miser quest, which begins with One\u2019s True Worth just outside of Sunshade.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"434\" data-current-count=\"434\" data-injectable=\"true\">Once you\u2019ve helped Heidne defeat Vaughner, she\u2019ll ask to join your team. As a Thief, she can impair enemies by lowering their stats and dealing Dagger and Dark damage to them. Her supporting skills are incredibly useful, giving her a chance to steal an item automatically after attacking or taking a second turn. To add the Cait to your team, you\u2019ll need to be invited to the Isle of Sages in the Outersea by finding all Letter Fragments. When you visit the island, you\u2019ll learn Isla is the minister, but she\u2019s willing to drop everything to join the Chosen One on their journey.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"364\" data-current-count=\"364\" data-injectable=\"false\">Like real-life cats, Isla can be a creature of pure chaos and destruction. Wielding only a tome, she\u2019s a master of non-elemental damage, but she also has a couple skills that restore her own HP and SP or raise the elemental attack and evasion of teammates. You won\u2019t find her until later on in the Kindlers of the Flame questline, and by that point, she\u2019s become a Cleric in Flamesgrace. <\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"497\" data-current-count=\"789\" data-injectable=\"true\">As a Cleric, she carries around a staff and a fan, and many of her skills involve some sort of healing effect. Where Laurana shines, however, is in her ability to shield allies from death with Wondrous Veil and her Ultimate Technique, Maiden\u2019s Miracle. At this point in the story, he\u2019s running a prominent business down in Sunshade, much to others\u2019 disdain. He\u2019s a bit pompous at first, especially for a 20-year-old merchant, but he eventually agrees to join your efforts at Wishvale after you take out a band of lizardmen at his behest.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"315\" data-current-count=\"315\" data-injectable=\"false\">Ludo\u2019s all about raking in those Leaves, and his skills reflect that. He fights primarily with a Polearm but also uses a Bow. At Wishvale, he marginally raises the selling price of items at the shop and is locked to that building\u2014though, since he\u2019s a merchant, would you really want him anywhere else?<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-battle-skills-12\" data-injectable=\"false\">Battle skills<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" data-found-items=\"8\" data-current-count=\"635\" data-injectable=\"true\">\n<li><strong>Spearhead<\/strong> (9 SP) \u2013 Deal Polearm damage to a foe. She\u2019s a caretaker almost to a fault, and she frets religiously about her friends\u2019 well-being. You can find Macy early on in your journey at the Emberglow Inn, and she\u2019ll quickly join your travels in hopes of spreading her charity to other regions of Orsterra.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"249\" data-current-count=\"610\" data-injectable=\"true\">As an Apothecary, Macy\u2019s battle skills both support allies through heals and SP restoration, as well as damaging enemies with hard-hitting Axe attacks. Given Olberic\u2019s capabilities, it\u2019s no surprise there are frauds parading around Orsterra using his name, and you\u2019ll catch one out later in your journey. After helping him, he decides to travel with you to find the retribution he\u2019s looking for.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"310\" data-current-count=\"595\" data-injectable=\"true\">As a Warrior, Olberic makes the most of swords and polearms. He can be quite the frontline, using his Cover support skill to defend allies from near death and taunting enemies into targeting him with Provoke. I meant totally badass thief.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"283\" data-current-count=\"631\" data-injectable=\"true\">You\u2019ll first run into Therion in Cragspear as he busts a gang\u2019s con to scam the town\u2019s inhabitants. He\u2019ll enlist your aid in taking down the gang\u2019s leader and will eventually agree to accompany you on your travels in hopes of keeping you out of trouble.<\/p>\n<p data-characters=\"258\" data-current-count=\"258\" data-injectable=\"false\">Therion has very similar battle skills to his appearance in the first game. As a Thief, his abilities involve stealing items, HP, and BP, as well as doing Dagger and Fire damage to enemies. But when the bidding goes south, you end up having to protect him and his assistant from a band of pirates.
