\n

The Rudder of Obedience<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

There\u2019s a
\npattern throughout Scripture that makes me pause whenever God\u2019s people drifted
\ninto evil, and consequences followed. Not because God is cruel, but because He is
\nholy. Look at Israel\u2014fresh out of forty years of miraculous provision, and the
\nmoment they turned aside, God delivered them into the hands of the Midianites. They
\nweren\u2019t free to live however they pleased and still expect His blessing.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

And yet\u2026
\nhow often do we do exactly that? How often do we cry out for favour while
\nrefusing to confront our own behaviour?<\/span><\/p>\n

For New
\nTestament believers, this becomes even more layered because of the finished
\nwork of the cross. \u201cIt is finished.\u201d<\/b> Not poetic language\u2014actual reality.
\nSalvation accomplished. The blood of the Lamb covers His people. The
\nresurrection sealed it, witnessed and confirmed beyond legal dispute\u2014though our
\nfaith never depended on the courtroom. If this work has been finished in
\nChrist, and it has, then the real question stands before us: How should we
\nlive?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

This is
\nwhere deception finds cracks in our armour. Our selfish wants. Our excuses. The
\nsmall compromises that grow into strongholds. I\u2019ve often spoken about the
\n\u201cmirror\u201d in my own life\u2014looking into it honestly and asking God to show me who
\nI truly am. Skip this step, and we\u2019re no different from the ostrich burying its
\nhead in the sand when pressure closes in.<\/span><\/p>\n

We say we
\nlove the Lord\u2014and I believe many do\u2014but without obedience, that confession gets
\nthin and hollow. Jesus made it painfully plain:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf anyone
\nloves Me, he will keep My word\u2026 Whoever does not love Me does not keep My
\nword.\u201d
(John 14:23\u201324)<\/span><\/p>\n

And again:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you
\nlove Me, you will keep My commandments.\u201d
(John 14:15)<\/span><\/p>\n

These
\nverses trip many of us up\u2014including me at times. But thank God for His kindness
\nthat leads us to repentance. Thank God that when His children come in humility,
\nmercy flows like a river.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth
\nnoting that John, known as the disciple of love, is the very one who connects
\nlove and obedience. The man who leaned on Jesus\u2019 chest, the one who wrote more
\nabout love than anyone else, reminds us that love without obedience is
\nincomplete.<\/b> Real love responds to Christ with a yielded heart. Obedience
\nisn\u2019t about perfection\u2014it\u2019s about direction. God disciplines His children not
\nto condemn but to guide, keeping our hearts soft, teachable, and hungry for
\nHim. When love and obedience walk together, faith is alive, active, and
\nfruitful.<\/span><\/p>\n

Still,
\nthere must come a point where we admit that God\u2019s commandments aren\u2019t
\noptional extras\u2014they are the rudder of our lives.<\/b> Ignore the rudder, and we
\ndrift. Embrace it, and we walk in truth. If altars of Baal have crept into our
\nlives\u2014altars of self, compromise, comfort\u2014we tear them down just as Gideon did.
\nNo excuses.<\/span><\/p>\n

And here
\nSolomon steps in with timeless clarity. The wisest man who ever lived summed up
\nthe posture every believer must have:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe fear
\nof the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.\u201d<\/span><\/b>
(Proverbs 9:10)<\/span><\/p>\n

Not
\ncleverness. Not discipline. Not religious activity. Wisdom begins with
\nhonouring God\u2014revering Him, esteeming Him, bowing before Him. Lose the fear
\nof the Lord, and you lose the foundation of a godly life.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

But we must
\nalso consider another truth God has given us:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPerfect
\nlove casts out fear.\u201d<\/span><\/b>
(1 John 4:18)<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not
\na contradiction; it is a revelation of balance. The fear Scripture commands is
\nnot the fear Scripture casts out. Reverent fear draws us near. Tormenting
\nfear drives us away.<\/b> One produces obedience, the other produces panic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perfect
\nlove removes the terror of judgment because the judgment we deserve has already
\nfallen on Christ. The wrath that should have crushed us was absorbed at
\nCalvary. So, the believer stands before God without dread\u2014loved, accepted,
\nredeemed.<\/span><\/p>\n

We now live
\nin two powerful realities:<\/span><\/p>\n

Reverence
\nthat shapes obedience.
Confidence anchored in His love.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Lose
\nreverence, and compromise overtakes us.
Lose confidence, and condemnation controls us.<\/span><\/p>\n

But when
\nthese truths walk hand in hand, our faith stands strong. We obey because we
\nlove Him. We draw near because He first loved us.<\/b> Perfect love does not
\nremove reverence\u2014it removes terror. And that is freedom purchased by Christ
\nHimself.<\/span><\/p>\n

A storm is
\ncoming. Scripture is clear about that. And like any soldier worth his salt, we
\nneed sharpened skills and settled convictions before the battle breaks. For me,
\nit\u2019s time\u2014past time\u2014to put God first without apology or delay. \u201cLet God be
\ntrue and every man a liar.\u201d<\/b> My desire is simple: to please my heavenly
\nFather with my conduct and obedience. Pray for me in this pursuit; I need it.<\/span><\/p>\n

To
\nunderstand God\u2019s character, we must read the Scriptures. The law\u2014yes, the Torah
\nitself\u2014reveals dimensions of His holiness, justice, patience, and faithfulness
\nthat modern believers often overlook. It is there, in those early pages, that we
\nlearn the fear of the Lord<\/b> and the seriousness of His call.<\/span><\/p>\n
