While negotiating a $44 billion arrangement to procure Twitter, Elon Musk let financiers know that he would focus on cutting the organization\u2019s bottom line. As reported by Bloomberg<\/a>\u00a0Musk talked about cutting both costs and jobs for the social network.<\/p>\n

In calls with bankers before the deal was reported, Musk answered questions as to how he would create returns at Twitter. While nothing is settled, (and Musk did not have any access to Twitter\u2019s non-public financials at that point) he explicitly referenced job cuts, said individuals, familiar with the matter who ask not to be named by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

Musk additionally talked about plans to monetize the platform and boost cash flow, including potential subscription services. Advertising industry pros express skepticism that Twitter could charge more for or run more ads on the platform<\/a>. More publicly at the recent TED conference Musk expressed indifference about monetizing Twitter.<\/p>\n
