Last year we <a href=\"https:\/\/traveltalesfromindia.in\/family-holiday-in-goa-beaches-bathtubs-and-a-dad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">went once<\/a>. This year, I\u2019ve already been twice! We generally stay in South Goa, but on my second trip this year, my sister and I stayed at IBIS Styles Goa Vagator, which isn\u2019t right by the beach.<\/p>\n<p>When we stayed by the beach earlier, we needed taxis only twice, to and from the airport, and that used to be fine.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">High and Random Taxi Prices<\/h2>\n<p>This time, however, we needed taxis more often. There was a taxi stand right by the hotel gate. We had already read about the high prices, and sadly, it\u2019s true. There is no rhyme or reason to the fares they quote.<\/p>\n<p>For example, anything and anywhere seems to start at \u20b9500. We went to a caf\u00e9 about 7 km away, and it cost \u20b91,000 each way! That\u2019s actually more expensive than Tokyo and in Tokyo, everything is systematic and upfront.<\/p>\n<p>I even downloaded the Goa Miles app, hoping to get a taxi that way. But I could never actually get one in Vagator. It could be because I was trying to book from my hotel and near almost every major hotel, there\u2019s an unofficial taxi stand, which seems to discourage app-based rides.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nice Taxi Drivers<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" alt=\"Anjuna Beach, Goa\" class=\"wp-image-34012\" data-jpibfi-post-excerpt=\"Goa taxi drivers are lovely but the prices? One even asked if we wanted to go to a nightclub. I laughed and said, \u201cDo we look like the age?\u201d He promptly replied, \u201cEveryone goes to a nightclub!\u201d Now I\u2019ve made a note, maybe next time!<\/p>\n<p>We even chatted about a bit of politics. One young driver said he liked the late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, as he cared deeply about the state.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Taxi Policy Puzzle<\/h2>\n<p>I truly wonder what kind of policy has led to such lopsided taxi pricing. It would be nice if it got corrected someday. In this day and age, random pricing dumped on tourists just doesn\u2019t feel right especially in a place as beautiful and welcoming as Goa.<\/p>\n<p>PS.
