A brand-new gameplay clip of Resident Evil Requiem has finally revealed the classic zombies in action. The footage, coming from a Japanese TV segment, shows Grace Ashcroft facing one of these creatures in a sequence that instantly evokes the spirit of Resident Evil 2. With the game launching next year, fans are now getting their first real taste of how Capcom is shaping its new take on survival horror.

Resident Evil Requiem Shows Its Zombies in Action for the First Time

Resident Evil Requiem is getting closer and closer. Scheduled for February 27, 2026, Capcom’s next big entry and narrative continuation of Resident Evil Village aims to deliver a fresh, more grounded take on survival horror with Grace Ashcroft as the new lead character.

Over the last few months Capcom has already shared several details about the project, also referred to as Resident Evil 9, yet many key elements remain under wraps. One of those mysteries was the behavior and presentation of the classic zombies.

That changed thanks to a new video circulating on social media. The short clip, taken from a Japanese TV broadcast, finally shows extended real gameplay, including Grace’s first encounter and combat against these undead enemies.

A First Look at Zombie Combat in Requiem

While earlier trailers had teased their appearance, this is the first time we get to watch the zombies moving, attacking, and reacting in a live gameplay scenario.

</picture>

The similarity with the recent Resident Evil remakes is undeniable. Since Requiem is played primarily in third-person, the animations, pacing, and even the iconic zombie bite feel very close to what we saw in the acclaimed Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Capcom seems to be leaning heavily into the modern identity of the franchise.

The zombie showcased in the clip moves with a familiar weight and aggression, and Grace’s reactions line up perfectly with the animations established in the newer installments.

Why We Haven’t Seen More Gameplay Yet

Well-known franchise insider Dusk Golem explained why Capcom may be holding back additional gameplay footage.

According to him, Requiem is far more dynamic than past entries, offering interactions that change based on both player behavior and monster behavior.

“There are several things across almost every part of the game that both the player and the monsters can do, which means situations play out in very different ways. That is one of RE9’s biggest strengths compared to previous titles.”

This lines up with other comments from Capcom staff. Recently, the game’s producer hinted that Requiem feels “very similar to Resident Evil 2”, referencing its tension, pacing, and focus on grounded survival horror.

Requiem May Be The Series’ Most Reactive Entry Yet

The new video reinforces what fans have been hoping for. Requiem appears to blend the modern formula of the RE2 remake with the exploration style of Village, while introducing systems designed to make encounters more unpredictable.

</picture>

If the final game delivers on that dynamic vision, Resident Evil Requiem could become one of the most unique and replayable entries in the franchise.

With more than a year of marketing still ahead, Capcom will likely reveal additional gameplay soon. For now, this short zombie encounter is enough to spark a wave of excitement among veterans of the series.
