While most 26.1 changes focus on performance tweaks and usability enhancements \u2014 like a toggle for more opaque Liquid Glass and requiring a swipe to stop alarms \u2014 some meaningful new protections arrived, too.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Apple has enabled Communication Safety and web content filters by default for child accounts aged 13\u201317 across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Parents can review or adjust these settings under <strong>Settings \u2192 Screen Time \u2192 Family \u2192 Content &amp; Privacy Restrictions<\/strong>, where they can fine-tune access to websites, apps, and games.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond features, the week\u2019s real story lies in security:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>iOS\/iPadOS 26.1<\/strong> patched <strong>45 vulnerabilities<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>macOS Tahoe 26.1<\/strong> fixed <strong>90<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>watchOS 26.1<\/strong> addressed <strong>26<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>tvOS 26.1<\/strong> patched <strong>21<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>visionOS 26.1<\/strong> resolved <strong>32<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Apple also shipped macOS Sequoia 15.7.2 (54 fixes) and Sonoma 14.8.2 (46 fixes) to cover older systems. A few days later, iOS\/iPadOS 18.7.2 landed with 29 additional patches.<\/p>\n<p>In all, Apple closed out the week having addressed more than 400 security issues \u2014 none known to be exploited yet, but still reason enough to update immediately.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-texas-pushes-parental-consent-law-for-app-stores-apple-responds-with-new-developer-apis\">Texas Pushes Parental Consent Law for App Stores \u2014 Apple Responds with New Developer APIs<\/h2>\n<p>Apple\u2019s built-in Parental Controls already give parents the power to monitor and manage what their kids can do online \u2014 but for the State of Texas, that\u2019s not quite enough.<\/p>\n<p>Enter the Texas App Store Accountability Act, a new law that will require Apple, Google, and other app store operators to verify users\u2019 ages and obtain parental consent before minors can download, purchase, or continue using apps, according to <em>Bloomberg Law<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2025\/11\/04\/app-store-texas-sb2420-new-apis\/\">9to5Mac<\/a> explains, the legislation means developers will need to collect and process age information and ensure parental approval for users under 18. To help make that happen, Apple is rolling out new APIs tied to iOS and iPadOS 26.2 developer betas, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Declared Age Range API <\/strong>\u2014 categorizes users as <em>under 13, 13\u201315, 16\u201317,<\/em> or <em>over 18.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Significant Change API<\/strong> \u2014 requires developers to re-request parental consent when making notable app updates or feature changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Parents in Texas will also be able to withdraw consent at any time, automatically blocking the app on a child\u2019s device. Developers, meanwhile, can opt to receive server notifications from Apple when such revocations occur.<\/p>\n<p>Apple has opened a Sandbox environment for developers to test these new systems ahead of the law\u2019s January 1, 2026 start date.
