Hey, it\u2019s been a while, hasn\u2019t it? I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve written a blog post in a year or so. I hope you\u2019re all doing well in these crazy times. As always, thanks for reading.<\/em><\/p>\n

I have a question: What\u2019s your favorite U.S. National Park? <\/p>\n

Over the past two years, I\u2019ve fallen in love with them. <\/p>\n

Before the pandemic, I had only visited a handful of them, mostly by accident. But once the pandemic hit, and it was safe enough to road-trip, I drove all around the country visiting them. <\/p>\n

Now I\u2019ve seen 15 out of 63. And someday, I\u2019d like to see them all.<\/p>\n

First, there was Redwood National Park, with its towering trees and black-sand beaches\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Then Indiana Dunes, with its sprawling views of nuclear reactors\u2026 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n

Then Utah, home to some of the best national parks in the country: I visited Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>
Hiking the Canyons at Zion. I\u2019d love to do it again during the summer!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

After Utah, I visited Mammoth Cave (Kentucky) and Hot Springs (Arkansas), on the way to Austin, which is where I live now.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n

Then there was Big Bend, Texas. The night sky is incredible there! You can see so many stars.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n

Followed by Petrified Forest in New Mexico\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n

And most recently, Glacier (Montana) and Grand Teton (Wyoming). Glacier National Park reminded me of Switzerland with its alpine valleys, purple wildflowers, and jagged mountains. I even saw mountain goats.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n

I feel so lucky that I\u2019ve gotten to see so much of our beautiful country in the past few years. <\/p>\n

When I was younger, I focused solely on international travel (this blog isn\u2019t called Ashley Abroad for nothin\u2019). But over the past two years, I\u2019m happy to report that I\u2019ve gained a newfound appreciation for my own backyard. <\/p>\n

It turns out you don\u2019t have to fly halfway around the world to go on an adventure.<\/p>\n

As for my favorite? It\u2019s a two-way tie between Redwood and Big Bend.<\/p>\n
