Starting the harvest earlier<br \/>\nthis year allowed us to keep a steady pace, picking under consistently<br \/>\nfavorable weather conditions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0At<br \/>\nthe Quinta da Gricha winery, the racking of the Port wine lagares went<br \/>\nsmoothly, and the last two small Sous\u00e3o lagares were fermenting as we<br \/>\napproached the end of harvest.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0For<br \/>\nDOC Douro wines, the white fermentations are now complete, and most of the reds<br \/>\nhave also finished alcoholic fermentation. <b>The Port wines show impressive<br \/>\ncolor and structure<\/b>, while the DOC Douro wines stand out for their fruit<br \/>\nintensity and elegance.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">In conclusion<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0We<br \/>\ncompleted the harvest on <b>September 28<\/b>, with grapes remaining in<br \/>\nexcellent sanitary condition until the very end. Overall yields were slightly<br \/>\nlower in some vineyards compared to last year, partly due to a less effective<br \/>\nflowering period and some sunburn effects observed in late June.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0At <b>Quinta<br \/>\nda Gricha<\/b>, however, yields were higher than last year, moving counter to<br \/>\nthe general trend across the other vineyards.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0There<br \/>\nis <b>a strong sense of optimism regarding the potential quality of the wines<\/b>,<br \/>\nboth Port and DOC Douro. We now look forward to the winter period to confirm<br \/>\nour high expectations for the 2025 vintage.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><b><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">Porto Dos Santos<\/span><\/b><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\"> (<\/span>Alexandre Antas Botelho, producer and blender, Porto Dos<br \/>\nSantos)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 The 2025 harvest was approaching, with promises<br \/>\nof demonstrations, low grape prices and the possibility of significant<br \/>\nquantities of fruit being left on the vines, as a result of chronic planting<br \/>\nand supply issues that have been occurring in the Douro region in recent<br \/>\ndecades. Throughout the region, discussions about the necessary measures and<br \/>\nprotests about the situation were felt, since it is among the smaller farmers<br \/>\nin the more traditional areas that the effects of the situation are most acute.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 As a result of this same situation, the<br \/>\nabandonment of vineyards has increased and there was a clear disinvestment in<br \/>\nvineyards, since the prices per barrel of grapes (750 kg) that exceed the<br \/>\n\u201cbenefit\u201d card do not even cover the costs of harvesting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0As for the conditions of the year itself, <b>there<br \/>\nwere significant drops in quantity, but it ended up being a year of high<br \/>\nquality<\/b>. The high temperatures and dry weather that were felt throughout<br \/>\nthe summer were mitigated during the harvest, bringing good ripening, extracted<br \/>\nmusts with very good structure, opening the door to <b>a possible Vintage<br \/>\ndeclaration,<\/b> or even a Split Declaration together with the year 2024.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana;\"><b><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 On another level, the questions that will be<br \/>\ncarried forward from 2025 are: what consequences will this crisis have in the<br \/>\nmedium\/long term for the Douro, <\/span><\/b><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">a default similar to what happened in the Jerez<br \/>\nregion in the 1990s? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana;\"><b><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 How could decisions be made and measures<br \/>\nimplemented that the region so badly needs, with such a fragmented landscape<br \/>\nand so many conflicting and even antagonistic interests, Douro\/Trade, Wine<br \/>\nProduction\/Tourism, Port Wine\/Table Wine, Players with a vested interest in the<br \/>\nsector\/Players whose presence in the market is a \u2018real estate investment\u2019<\/span><\/b><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">. To address this<br \/>\nsituation, urgent decisions taken on the fly are not enough, as was the case<br \/>\nthis year, when there were not even enough grapes to justify distillation<br \/>\nmeasures. A broad consensus would be needed, which I do not see any interest in<br \/>\nachieving.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">Quevedo Port Wines<\/span><\/b><span style=\"mso-themecolor: accent2; mso-themeshade: 191;\">, \u00d3scar Quevedo<br \/>\n(producer Quevedo Wines):\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%; mso-themecolor: accent2; mso-themeshade: 191;\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0This<br \/>\nyear, the Douro region experienced a warmer, drier winter, followed by a rainy<br \/>\nspring and a typically hot summer. However, when we began harvesting in<br \/>\nmid-August, we found extremely low yields in our vineyards &#8211; about 50% less than last year.\u00a0Despite the smaller quantity, we are pleased to<br \/>\nshare that the quality of this year&#8217;s harvest is exceptional.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0I<br \/>\nbelieve it has been a surprisingly good year. We had a winter that was slightly<br \/>\nwarmer than average and slightly drier than average, we had a lot of rain in spring, and the summer was hot, as is usual in the Douro. When we started<br \/>\nharvesting the Tinta Amarela grape for our claret, I think it was on 15th August,<br \/>\n<b>we realised that yields were very low<\/b>. So, compared to last year, we are<br \/>\nharvesting about 50% less, but what happens when quantity is low is that<br \/>\nquality usually goes up, and this year this is very obvious. We had <b>a much<br \/>\nlower production but with very high quality. I think it will be a Vintage Port<br \/>\nyear to be remembered for many years to come<\/b>. The colours are very intense,<br \/>\nthe musts are very fresh, with lots of tannins, lots of structure and very,<br \/>\nvery balanced.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0It<br \/>\nwas also a good year for table wines, for those who appreciate full-bodied,<br \/>\nfresh and intense red wines, that is 2025. And the white wines are also<br \/>\nbalanced. We harvested the white grapes earlier than in the previous year, in<br \/>\nfact, earlier than ever, to achieve balance and fresh grapes, and we are very<br \/>\nhappy with the result.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0Now<br \/>\nwe will wait for winter to calm the musts and the wines, and once the first<br \/>\nclarification comes with the cold weather, we will be able to better understand<br \/>\nthe potential of 2025.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0This<br \/>\nyear&#8217;s harvest went exceptionally well. <b>2025 turned out to be a wonderful<br \/>\nsurprise, bringing us grapes of excellent quality<\/b>. The harvest began on 15th August &#8211; <b>another record for us in terms of such an early starting date<\/b> &#8211;<br \/>\nwith the harvest of Tinta Amarela grape variety for our Clarete, at Quinta da<br \/>\nAlegria. Little by little, and without interruption, we harvested the whites<br \/>\nand then the reds on the plots near the river. It was the first week of<br \/>\nSeptember. From the second week of September onwards, we saw <b>an increasing<br \/>\nconcentration of musts, with lots of colour, tannin and aromatic intensity<\/b>.<br \/>\nAs the harvest moved away from the river and up the hillside, the grapes became<br \/>\nmore concentrated and intense. The musts were fantastic, perhaps with slightly<br \/>\nlow acidity, but apart from that, they were perfect. Once again, <b>the grapes<br \/>\nharvested in October produced equally remarkable wines. Na <b>Quinta<br \/>\nda Gricha<\/b>, no entanto, os rendimentos foram superiores aos do ano passado,<br \/>\ncontrariando a tend\u00eancia geral nas outras vinhas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0Existe<br \/>\n<b>um forte otimismo em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 qualidade potencial dos vinhos, tanto do<br \/>\nPorto como do DOC Douro<\/b>. Por toda a<br \/>\nregi\u00e3o as discuss\u00f5es sobre as medidas necess\u00e1rias e os protestos sobre a<br \/>\nsitua\u00e7\u00e3o se fizeram sentir, uma vez que, \u00e9 junto dos lavradores mais pequenos<br \/>\ndas zonas mais tradicionais que os efeitos da conjuntura s\u00e3o mais pungentes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Como<br \/>\nresultado dessa mesma conjuntura, acentuaram-se as situa\u00e7\u00f5es de abandono de<br \/>\nvinhas e observou-se um claro desinvestimento na vinha, uma vez que os pre\u00e7os<br \/>\npela pipa de uvas (750 kg) que excederem o cart\u00e3o de benef\u00edcio, n\u00e3o paga sequer<br \/>\nos custos de vindima.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 No<br \/>\nque toca \u00e0s condi\u00e7\u00f5es do ano em si, registaram-se <b>quebras importantes de<br \/>\nquantidade mas acabou por ser um ano de muita qualidade<\/b>, as altas<br \/>\ntemperaturas e tempo seco que se fizeram sentir durante todo o ver\u00e3o, foram<br \/>\natenuadas durante a vindima, trazendo boas matura\u00e7\u00f5es, mostos extra\u00eddos e com<br \/>\nmuito boa estrutura, abrindo a porta a <b>uma eventual declara\u00e7\u00e3o de Vintage<\/b>,<br \/>\nou at\u00e9 um Split Declaration em conjunto com o ano de 2024<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Noutro\u00a0plano,<br \/>\n<b>as quest\u00f5es que de 2025 se levar\u00e1 para o futuro s\u00e3o, que consequ\u00eancias esta<br \/>\ncrise trar\u00e1 a m\u00e9dio\/longo prazo para o Douro<\/b>, um default semelhante ao que<br \/>\nse passou na regi\u00e3o de Jerez nos anos 90? <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Como<br \/>\nse conseguiria\u00a0tomar decis\u00f5es e <b>implementar medidas das quais a regi\u00e3o<br \/>\nnecessita tanto, com um &#8220;landscape&#8221; t\u00e3o fragmentado e com tantos<br \/>\ninteresses d\u00edspares e at\u00e9 antag\u00f3nicos, Douro\/Com\u00e9rcio, Produ\u00e7\u00e3o de<br \/>\nvinho\/Turismo, Vinho do Porto\/Vinho de Mesa, Players com um interesse fundado<br \/>\nno sector\/ Players cuja presen\u00e7a no mercado se trata de um &#8220;investimento<br \/>\nimobili\u00e1rio&#8221;<\/b>. Para fazer face a esta situa\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o bastam decis\u00f5es de<br \/>\nurg\u00eancia tomadas em cima do joelho, como se verificou este ano, em que nem<br \/>\nhouve uvas suficientes para fundar as medidas de destila\u00e7\u00e3o. Seria<br \/>\nnecess\u00e1rio um consenso amplo, que n\u00e3o vejo interesse em ser alcan\u00e7ado<b>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><b><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">Quevedo Port Wines<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color: #783f04;\">, \u00d3scar<br \/>\nQuevedo (produtor Quevedo Wines) <span style=\"line-height: 107%;\"\/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Este<br \/>\nano, a regi\u00e3o do Douro registou um inverno mais quente e seco, seguido de uma<br \/>\nprimavera chuvosa e de um ver\u00e3o tipicamente quente. No entanto, ao iniciarmos a<br \/>\nvindima a partir de meados de agosto, verific\u00e1mos <b>rendimentos extremamente<br \/>\nbaixos nas nossas vinhas<\/b> \u2014<b> cerca de 50% inferiores aos do ano passado<\/b>.<br \/>\nApesar da menor quantidade, temos o prazer de partilhar que a qualidade da<br \/>\ncolheita deste ano \u00e9 excecional.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Acredito<br \/>\nque \u00e9 um ano surpreendentemente bom, tivemos um Inverno que foi um pouco mais<br \/>\nquente do que a m\u00e9dia e um pouco mais seco do que a m\u00e9dia, tivemos muita chuva<br \/>\nna primavera, o ver\u00e3o foi quente como \u00e9 habitual no Douro, no momento em que<br \/>\ncome\u00e7amos a vindima com a casta Tinta Amarela para o nosso clarete, penso que<br \/>\nfoi a 15 de Agosto, percebemos que os rendimentos foram muito baixos, portanto,<\/span><span style=\"color: #783f04;\"> <span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">quando comparamos com o ano anterior estamos a vindimar<br \/>\ncerca de 50% menos,<span>\u00a0 <\/span>mas o que acontece<br \/>\nquando a quantidade baixa \u00e9 que a qualidade usualmente sobe, e neste ano isso \u00e9<br \/>\nmuito \u00f3bvio, tivemos uma produ\u00e7\u00e3o muito menor mas <b>com uma qualidade muito<br \/>\nalta, penso que vai ser um ano de Porto Vintage para ser lembrado por muitos<br \/>\nanos<\/b>, as cores s\u00e3o muito intensas, os mostos s\u00e3o muito frescos, muitos<br \/>\ntaninos, muita estrutura e muito, muito equilibrados.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Para<br \/>\nos vinhos de mesa foi tamb\u00e9m um bom ano, para aqueles que apreciam vinhos<br \/>\ntintos encorpados, frescos e intensos, isso \u00e9 2025. E os vinhos brancos s\u00e3o<br \/>\ntamb\u00e9m equilibrados, n\u00f3s vindimamos as uvas brancas mais cedo do que no<br \/>\nanterior, na realidade, mais cedo do que nunca, para termos equil\u00edbrio e as<br \/>\nuvas frescas e estamos muito contentes com o resultado.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Agora<br \/>\nvamos esperar pelo inverno para acalmar os mostos e os vinhos, e uma vez que a<br \/>\nprimeira clarifica\u00e7\u00e3o vem com o tempo frio, conseguiremos compreender melhor o<br \/>\npotencial de 2025. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><b style=\"color: #783f04;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\">Conclus\u00e3o<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #783f04; line-height: 107%;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Este<br \/>\nano a vindima correu excepcionalmente bem. <b>2025 acabou por se revelar uma<br \/>\nbela surpresa por nos ter trazido uvas de excelente qualidade.<\/b> A vindima<br \/>\niniciou a 15 de Agosto &#8211; mais <b>um recorde para n\u00f3s em termos de data de<br \/>\nin\u00edcio t\u00e3o precoce<\/b> &#8211; com a vindima da Tinta Amarela para o nosso Clarete,<br \/>\nna Quinta da Alegria. Pouco a pouco, e sem interrup\u00e7\u00f5es, fomos vindimando os<br \/>\nbrancos e depois os tintos nas cotas pr\u00f3ximas ao rio. Est\u00e1vamos na primeira<br \/>\nsemana Setembro. A partir da segunda semana de Setembro vemos <b>uma crescente<br \/>\nconcentra\u00e7\u00e3o dos mostos, com muita cor, tanino e intensidade arom\u00e1tica<\/b>. \u00c0<br \/>\nmedida que a vindima deixava a cota de rio e ia subindo na encosta\u00a0as uvas<br \/>\napresentavam-me com mais concentra\u00e7\u00e3o e intensidade. Os mostos estavam<br \/>\nfant\u00e1sticos, qui\u00e7\u00e1 com a acidez um pouco baixa, mas em tudo o resto estavam perfeitos.
