Most bread machines come with a delay start timer. It allows you to place your ingredients in the bread pan, set the timer, and let the machine start later on its own.<\/p>\n

Typically this is used overnight so that you can wake up to fresh bread. You can also set it up in the morning and have the machine bake bread during the day. \u00a0You\u2019ll come home to a house that smells wonderful and part of dinner will already be ready. Who wouldn\u2019t love that?<\/p>\n

I have a Zojirushi BB-PAC20 Virtuoso<\/a>. \u00a0One nice feature of that bread maker is that the add beep doesn\u2019t sound on the timed function. \u00a0If you\u2019re using it overnight you don\u2019t need to worry about the beep waking you. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Another nice touch with my Zo is that there\u2019s no tricky math involved. Instead of asking what time you want the machine to start, the Zo simply asks what time you want your bread to be ready. Easy!<\/p>\n

Tips for Using the Bread Machine Delay Start Timer<\/h2>\n

Here are a few things I\u2019ve learned that will help you use the bread machine delay start timer.\u00a0 These will be helpful no matter what type of bread machine you own.<\/p>\n

Ingredients \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Stick to recipes that do not include milk, juice, fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, or other ingredients that could spoil if left out too long.<\/p>\n

Add Beep \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Skip recipes that call for the add beep when using the delay start timer.\u00a0 To be honest though, I haven\u2019t had that much luck with the add beep<\/a>. \u00a0I usually add my ingredients at the start anyway.<\/p>\n

Test\u00a0 Recipes First \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>You\u2019ll want to know that you\u2019ve got the dry to liquid ingredients ratio correct before using a recipe in this way.\u00a0 But once you\u2019ve tested a recipe and know it works, the delay timer can be a real time-saver.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cooling Time \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Remember that fresh bread needs time to cool\u2014plan on 45 minutes to an hour before slicing.<\/p>\n

Keep Warm Function<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0If your machine has a \u201ckeep warm\u201d function you\u2019ll need to be there when the bread is done so you can remove it from the machine. \u00a0Otherwise, you\u2019ll need to wait even longer before you can slice the loaf.<\/p>\n
