I decided to take a drive to a local artisan distillery just to have a look and see what they are about.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>This impromptu visit was one of the most charming and delightful, not to mention interesting, visits I have ever made. For those who don\u2019t know where I am talking about, it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blacknessbaydistillery.co.uk\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"follow external noopener noreferrer\">Blackness Bay Distillery<\/a>.\u00a0 The setting is stunning, overlooking the River Forth.\u00a0 The distillery itself is tiny and housed in a really old building, apparently the oldest building in the village and within there are\u00a0 loads of antique artefacts.\u00a0 Apparently, originally the building had been a brew house and bakery serving Blackness Castle, which is within walking distance.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1120\" height=\"690\" src=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Bay-Distillery.png\" alt=\"Blackness Bay Distillery\" class=\"wp-image-231724\" style=\"width:740px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Bay-Distillery.png 1120w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Bay-Distillery-300x185.png 300w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Bay-Distillery-768x473.png 768w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Bay-Distillery-250x154.png 250w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1120px) 100vw, 1120px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The distillery and village pub, The Lobster Pot, are jointly owned.\u00a0 Unfortunately, we did not have time for lunch, but it is a venue that we will visit in the near future, as said wife is partial to lobster.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1144\" height=\"654\" src=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Lobster-Pot.png\" alt=\"The Lobster Pot Restaurant\" class=\"wp-image-231725\" style=\"width:740px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Lobster-Pot.png 1144w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Lobster-Pot-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Lobster-Pot-768x439.png 768w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Lobster-Pot-250x143.png 250w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1144px) 100vw, 1144px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>We were shown around the Distillery by the charming owner, Colm O\u2019Rourke. This was not an organised tour, we just popped in but ended up getting a tour of his extensive gardens with the variety of historic statues, including one of Rabbie Burns, who had stayed at the property for 18 months.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>We saw the washback, mash tun and stills as you would expect, and a small warehouse\u00a0accommodating a selection of small barrels.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"836\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Distillery.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-231726\" style=\"width:746px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Distillery.png 836w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Distillery-300x276.png 300w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Distillery-768x706.png 768w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Distillery-250x230.png 250w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 836px) 100vw, 836px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>This distillery specialises in Whisky &amp; Rum.\u00a0 My wife sampled some of the spiced rum and their honey rum.\u00a0 Her preference was the honey rum, and I suspect she will be acquiring a bottle soon.<\/p>\n<p>Mr O\u2019Rourke kindly gave me a sample of his Virgin Mary, which is a new-make spirit.\u00a0 I found this to be very interesting, unlike many new make spirits, this had a good colour (polished pine). This spirit was also quite easy on the palate\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The selection of products are:-<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary Queen of Scotch,<\/strong> single malt currently maturing in the warehouse in oak bourbon barrels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virgin Mary<\/strong>, new make spirit, now available.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rums<\/strong>, now available<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blackness Bay Single Rum<\/strong>.\u00a0 White Scottish rum<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flower of Scotland Pink Rum.<\/strong> Heather, rose and thistle infused<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacobite Outlandish Rum<\/strong>. Dark spiced rum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sheena\u2019s Raspberry Rum<\/strong>. Distilled raspberry rum, raspberries collected from the distiller\u2019s garden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blackness Golden Rum<\/strong>. Aged in oak barrels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blackness honey rum Liqueur<\/strong>. This was Whisky Boy\u2019s wife, Jacqueline\u2019s favourite.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I would highly recommend that you go visit this truly fascinating little distillery; it is like stepping back in time.\u00a0 My wife was really impressed by the charm of the place, right down to the statue of a cat looking over the river from the roof of the building.\u00a0 If I didn\u2019t know better, I would have expected Jamie Fraser from Outlander to come walking through the door.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"968\" height=\"464\" src=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Logo.png\" alt=\"Blackness Bay Distillery Logo\" class=\"wp-image-231727\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Logo.png 968w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Logo-300x144.png 300w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Logo-768x368.png 768w, https:\/\/whiskyboys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Blackness-Logo-250x120.png 250w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 968px) 100vw, 968px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>A big thanks to Colm for making time to give us a great insight into his distillery,warehouse and gardens and a couple of tastings and a 20cl sample of his new make spirit.<\/p>\n<p>The Whisky Boys wish you the very best and do not change the distillery layout; it is quite unique and totally delightful.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/.pagination-->\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What a Pearl on my doorstep.
