You don&#8217;t see that in every community.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I chastised him, &#8220;<em>Paul, where was that line in the interview?<\/em>&#8221; The room erupted in laugher.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"914\" data-end=\"963\">The Cost of Regulation and Why It Matters<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"471\" data-end=\"912\">Housing affordability isn\u2019t just an economic issue it\u2019s a community issue that affects every Wisconsin family, builder\u00a0and local government. In the latest episode of <strong data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"666\">Land Development Focus<\/strong>, host <strong data-start=\"673\" data-end=\"687\">Paul Seitz<\/strong> sat down with <strong data-start=\"702\" data-end=\"719\">David Belman<\/strong>, President of <strong data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"751\">Belman Homes<\/strong>, to discuss the rising cost of homebuilding, the impact of regulations, and how builders across our state are working to keep the American Dream within reach.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"1277\">During his time as President of the Wisconsin Builders Association, Belman helped champion several key pieces of legislation, including the <strong data-start=\"1105\" data-end=\"1133\">Homeowner Bill of Rights<\/strong>, designed to create more predictability in the development process. He\u2019s seen firsthand how complicated and costly\u00a0the system can become.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1279\" data-end=\"1522\">\n<p data-start=\"1281\" data-end=\"1522\">\u201c$87,000 of the cost of a new home comes from local, state, and federal regulations,\u201d Belman explained. \u201cThat\u2019s roughly 25% percent of the total cost. There\u2019s a lot of fat we could trim out of that equation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1652\">It\u2019s an eye-opening statistic that highlights just how much red tape stands between Wisconsin families and an affordable home.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1691\">A Builder\u2019s Heart for Community<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1692\" data-end=\"1977\">Beyond the policy conversations, Belman\u2019s work is deeply personal.
