In the Parish of Indang, Cavite<\/b> (est. 1625)\u00a0 dedicated to San Gregorio Magno<\/b> (St. Gregory
\nthe Great<\/b>), there not only flourishes a profound devotion to its great patron,
\nbut also to the 7 Archangels: Baraquiel, Gabriel, Judiel, Miguel, Rafael,\u00a0 Sealtiel, and Uriel.<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

Town lore has it that a painting of the 7 angels was
\nfound rolled up in a trash heap behind the church. The unsigned Archangels<\/b> painting
\nwas a local painted version of an 16th<\/sup> century print made by Flemish
\nengraver Hieronymus Wierix<\/b> (1553\u2019d. 1 Nov.1619) who did many religious prints.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

The ancient painting, in a shadowbox frame, \u00a0<\/span>was enshrined on one side of the altar, and it
\nwas in this manner that the people\u2019s devotion came to include the 7 archangels.
\n\u00a0<\/span>Indang<\/b>\u2019s town fiesta, celebrated on the
\n2nd<\/sup> Sunday of May and the following Tuesday, honors their joint
\npatrons\u2013 the pope-saint, San<\/b> Gregorio Magno<\/b>, and the Seven Archangels.<\/b> Their actual feast days are marked separately: Sep. 3 and Sep. 29, respectively.<\/p>\n

Show here are the old statue carvings of the Seven Archangels<\/b> which were meant to be used for processions.<\/p>\n

SAN BARAQUIEL.\u00a0<\/b>Chief of the guardian angels, \u00a0a patron of family and married life. He is
\nalso invoked as the special guardian of those born on Saturday. Symbols: include
\na wreath of white roses or a book, representing marital and family guidance. Traditions
\nassociate him with \u00a0power over lightning
\nand storms, as his name can also be interpreted as “lightning of God.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

SAN GABRIEL.\u00a0<\/b>Messenger of God; known for
\ndelivering significant messages, such as the announcement to the Virgin Mary
\nthat she would give birth to Jesus. Patron saint: Gabriel is considered the
\npatron saint of messengers, communication workers, and postal workers. Symbolic
\nattributes include a white lily, representing purity, and a trumpet.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

SAN JUDIEL.<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>His name\u2014from \u201cJehudiel\u201d–means <\/b>“Praise
\nof God”. <\/b>Patron saint of all those in positions of responsibility
\nand encourages those in their work. Often shown holding a crown (reward for
\nspiritual labor) and a whip or a three-thonged whip (punishment for sinners).<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

SAN MIGUEL.\u00a0<\/b>Prominent warrior archangel, leader of
\nGod’s armies, specially for his role in vanquishing Satan. Venerated as a
\nchampion of justice, a healer, and the guardian of the Church. Depicted with a
\nsword, a banner, or scales, and sometimes shown stepping on a dragon.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

SAN RAFAEL.\u00a0<\/b>His name means “God has
\nhealed,” and he is invoked for divine healing. He served as a guide for
\nTobit, hence, also patron of \u00a0travelers
\nand pilgrims. Often shown holding a staff or a fish, the latter symbolizing the
\nhealing powers he used from a fish’s gall to cure Tobit’s father’s blindness.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

SAN SEALTIEL.\u00a0<\/b>San Sealtiel. T<\/b>he angel of prayer and worship, \u00a0believed to help people with their prayers,
\nguide them in worshiping God, and present their petitions to God. Often
\ndepicted holding a censer (thurible), with arms crossed in prayer.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

SAN URIEL.\u00a0<\/b>San Uriel. T<\/b>he angel of wisdom, prophecy, truth,
\nand light. His name means “God is my light” or “fire of
\nGod”. Often depicted with a book or scroll and sometimes with a solar orb.
\nIn some traditions, he is the one who wields the fiery sword at the gate of
\nEden.<\/p>\n
