Rice is always a comfort food for Samin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/81040704\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">The Taco Chronicles<\/span><\/a> on Netflix led Samin to one of her failures during recipe development (but also led to the beginning of Monday Night Dinners, so not really a failure at all?).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">[Hold space here for the worst and possibly best (maybe off all time?) Hrishi pun here about tacos al pastor.]<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">From the book: Teo\u2019s Chivi Spice comes from Teodoro Diaz-Rodriguez Jr. of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonoratown.com\/our-story\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Sonoratown<\/span><\/a>. Perhaps you need to add some kind of food competition like Aparna\u2019s Diwali-themed cookie Olympics?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Samin suggests a Thanksgiving Condiment Competition because <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=WdT6mkpnsUc\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Thanksgiving is Bland<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Sorry to that ghost (a pilgrim), but it just is!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>Here\u2019s some suggestions from the Campaign to Acidify Thanksgiving, Condiment Competition Edition:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">If you are already embroiled in some sort of annual Chili Cookoff situation at your place of employment, Samin and Hrishi have some thoughts on making a Cholle-themed chili that perhaps is actually just <a href=\"https:\/\/cooking.nytimes.com\/recipes\/1024429-chana-masala?algo=cooking_search_relevance_metric_ios_and_web&amp;fellback=false&amp;imp_id=8804753888596934&amp;req_id=1827537168360229&amp;surface=cooking-search-web&amp;variant=0_relevance_reranking\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Cholle<\/span><\/a> after all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>Got a lot of dates?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">You could absently eat them in front of the TV a la Hrishi or you could make the iconic\/legendary\/GOAT <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/p\/books\/pure-dessert-alice-medrich\/a962d285f0c100f9?ean=9781579656850&amp;next=t&amp;next=t\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Alice Medrich\u2019s<\/span><\/a> Fruit and Nut Cake\u2013keep your eye on <a href=\"https:\/\/ciaosamin.substack.com\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Samin\u2019s Substack<\/span><\/a>, people \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">You can also put dates in a snap pea chopped salad as described in Good Things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>IF you have one pound of sumac and cannot reach the Egyptian consulate to give some back, then good luck to you!<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Your only real option is to become a very generous friend who constantly gives small jars of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/zaatar-recipe-6375053\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">za\u2019atar<\/span><\/a> as gifts. Which is actually a really awesome gift to receive, so get on that, this is a great option!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>Portable Protein Snacks to get you to Ballet Class or elsewhere:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Boiled eggs<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Various flavors of hummus with various crackers and various veggies (so you never get bored).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Two very small bean and cheese burritos, griddled.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Almond butter-filled dates<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Beef jerky<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>Samin\u2019s advice to her 25-year-old chef self:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Everything doesn\u2019t have to be the hardest.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">There\u2019s stuff outside of work, and it is in fact what makes you a whole and healthy person.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">You don\u2019t have to sacrifice every part of yourself to success, you will be miserable.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Don\u2019t lose yourself in the work.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Get yourself to therapy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">THIS IS STILL GREAT ADVICE FOR OUR PRESENT SELVES!!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">ARE WE STILL LEARNING THESE LESSONS???
