TEXT:
\nLeviticus 19:1-13<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

1.
\nAnd the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,<\/span><\/p>\n

2.
\nSpeak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them,
\nYe shall be holy; for I the LORD your God am holy.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.
\nYe shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths; I am
\nthe LORD your God.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.
\nTurn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods; I am the LORD your
\nGod.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.
\nAnd if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, ye shall offer it
\nat your own will.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt shall be eaten the same day ye offer it, and on the morrow; and if ought

\nAnd thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of
\nthy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger; I am the LORD
\nyour God.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nYe shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.<\/span><\/p>\n

12.
\nAnd ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name
\nof thy God; I am the LORD.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him; the wages of him that is

MESSAGE:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The story is told of a notable business tycoon in the habit of hiring
\ncontractors to work for him. At the onset, he paid 80% of the contract sum,
\nwith a promise to pay up the balance on satisfactory completion. Since the
\nprofit margin was always less than 20%, the contractor usually would have to
\nborrow additional funds to complete the work. On satisfactory completion,
\npaying that balance became a problem. To assuage the contractor, more and more
\njobs were given to him. So the 20% kept accumulating into millions of unpaid
\ndebts. Attempts to get the money were usually rebuffed with the threat that the
\ncontractor should go to court. And since the judicial process was usually slow
\nin that country and the \u201cbig man\u201d, was \u201cwell connected\u201d, the helpless
\ncontractors would leave the money with huge debts hanging on their necks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lord commanded Israel to be holy because He is holy. And how should
\nthat holiness be seen? By honouring one\u2019s parents who are God\u2019s representatives
\non earth; by faithful observance of the Sabbath; by not worshipping idols; by
\nbringing peace and fellowship offerings to God, by providing for the poor and
\nhaving regard for the truth and by prompt payment of wages of hired workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a world where \u201cmight is right\u201d, the rights of the less privileged
\nare often trampled upon by the rich who are getting richer and richer at the
\nexpense of the poor. For this, Apostle James, inspired by the Spirit of God, warned
\nthe greedy rich men, \u201cYour riches are corrupted \u2026 Your gold and silver is
\ncankered \u2026 behold the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields,
\nwhich is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries \u2026 are entered into
\nthe ears of the Lord\u2026\u201d (James 5:2-4). God hates when the poor is maltreated. He
\nabhors injustice. Let everyone whom God has blessed use their wealth wisely.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFOR THE DAY: <\/span><\/b>Don\u2019t punish the poor. Pay him his dues.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
